The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
  • Attends Work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Assist staff pharmacist in various aspects of technical aspects of outpatient prescription work (type pass/furlough/discharge prescriptions), assist in distribution of medication (e.g.: filling medication carts for inpatient via cart exchange). Performs daily delivery of medications to the homes. Restock vials and bags for medication. Repackage bulk drugs into unit-dose for in-patient use. Performs med-room inspections and supply medication for after-hour med-room. Monthly maintenance of adequate inventory and receive medications in accordance with CCSSLC policies and procedures. Provides technical and clerical support to the pharmacist by preparing outpatient prescriptions and run/review some report; reviews and inputs drug orders into the computer system, receives and reconciles drug order shipments for accuracy, integrity and expiration dates; fills and maintains drugs in the mini cart for after-hours medication needs; keeps pharmacy equipment and work areas clean and neat. Provide treatment of HHS employees injured in the course and scope of employment.
  • Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of pharmacy technology, medical and pharmaceutical terms. Knowledge of mathematical calculations applicable to pharmacy practice. Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing pharmacy operations. Knowledge of UPS rules and regulations. Knowledge of agency policies, rules, and regulations. Skills in typing. Skills in the operation of pharmaceutical equipment. Ability to prepare prescription orders. Ability to inventory pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. Ability to learn the pharmacy medication software (e.g. Worx). Ability to learn the Computer Inventory System. Ability to adapt to different job situations. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others and exercise considerable judgement in making decisions. Ability to communicate with other members of the health care team. Ability to plan, prioritize, and schedule workload in the area of responsibility. Ability to comprehend and implement written and oral functions. Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs. Knowledge of: The function, role and service of the pharmacy department and its role in health care deliver for the seriously mentally ill. Manufacturing, packaging and labeling of drug products. Pharmaceutical calculations. The technician's role in delivering medications. Dosage forms, dosages and routes of administrations. Skills in: The use of electronic data and/or word processing equipment and software. Problem solving. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers. Provide pharmaceutical services in accordance with professional standards. Ability to accurately prepare medication orders and prescriptions for a registered pharmacist's review before dispensing. Ability to operate the fax machine. Ability to maintain records.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

Certified Pharmacy Technician (C.Ph.T) credentials are a job requirement.
Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.

Initial Screening Criteria:

Registered with TSBP. Minimum 1 year pharmacy technician experience OR completion of accredited pharmacy technician training program.

Additional Information:

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
