SGMC Health in Valdosta, GA, is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the Pharmacy department on the Main Campus. The role requires active Georgia Board of Pharmacy registration and focuses on aseptic preparation, medication distribution, and collaboration with clinical staff.

The successful candidate will participate in ongoing training, QA activities, and readiness for accreditation surveys, while maintaining accuracy in dosing and data entry in Epic, Omnicell, and QS1 systems.

Qualifications

• Must complete licensure/registration with the GA Board of Pharmacy and be active as a pharmacy technician.
• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• GA Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
• Pharmacy Technician Certification on file with GA Board required.
• Prior health care experience, hospital setting preferred.
• Six-week training program with proficiency in aseptic prep, medication batches, and drug distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support in the Pharmacy Department on assigned tasks.
• Complete at least 20 hours of Continuing Education every two years.
• Assist in training, orientation and assessment of new staff and students.
• Participate in Quality Improvement assignments and readiness activities for accreditation.
• Operate within Epic, Omnicell and QS1 to ensure accurate medication distribution.

SCHEDULE: Full Time, 7on/7off, Evening Shift

POSITION SUMMARY

To provide technical support in the various aspects, functions, and responsibilities of The Department of Pharmacy. Effectively executes all competencies on a regular basis specific to assigned area and location. Successfully completes at least 20 hours of Continuing Educations every two years. Assists in the training, orientation and assessment of New Employees, Interns, Externs and Students. Participates in and completes all Quality Improvement assignments. Plays a significant role in the department's readiness for DNV Survey.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Must complete all licensure and/or registration requirements with the State of Georgia Board of Pharmacy and be in active status as a pharmacy technician prior to employment
• High school graduate or completed a high school equivalence course is preferred.
• Pharmacy Technician Registration by the Georgia Board of Pharmacy required.
• Pharmacy Technician Certification on file with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy required.
• Prior health care experience, particularly in a hospital setting preferred.
• The Pharmacy technician will be required to complete a six-week training program and then be able to demonstrate efficiency in typing, preparation of aseptic solutions, preparation of medication and medication batches, and must have knowledge of inpatient and outpatient drug distribution systems (Epic, Omnicell, QS1), and be able to work mathematical calculations accurately.
• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide pharmacy services appropriate to the age of the patient's served.
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
• Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide the care needed by our patient groups (i.e., neonate, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric).
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
• Possesses a current and valid certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board with status dependent upon annual certification and proof of validation from the Board.

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION

Considerable physical effort, for example, constant standing or walking with periods of concentration. Concentration on physician orders, prescriptions, or reports is required. Some medium to heavy lifting. Considerable mental effort required with the ability to work in a confined, high-stress environment. Ability to work closely with others is required. Comfortable conditions with the possibility of irregular schedules including weekends, exposure to certain levels of stress and subject to injury limited to minor burns, cuts, or bruises. Possible exposure to hazardous material.
