Pharmacy Specialist - Clinical Informatics - Full Time - Detroit Elijah McCoy

Join Henry Ford Health as a Full-Time Pharmacy Specialist in Clinical Informatics.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Schedule: Full Time, 40 Hours

Henry Ford Health is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Specialist in Clinical Informatics to act as the primary liaison between Pharmacy Services and Information Technology (IT)/EPIC teams. This role involves advancing medication management technologies and optimizing workflows to improve patient care and safety, including ongoing improvement of procedures, systems, and technology within clinical informatics.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the main intermediary for Pharmacy, Nursing, and other Service Lines regarding Medication Management Technology issues, escalating to Epic or other IT teams as needed.
  • Manage requests for changes to Pharmacy Technology systems, advising on feasibility and timelines, and validating the effectiveness post-implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Shared Services Medication Management team to monitor formulary additions and assess their relevance.
  • Troubleshoot issues with Pharmacy Technology systems (software and hardware).
  • Assist the Pharmacy Automation team with troubleshooting and optimal utilization of pharmacy technologies.
  • Participate in the Pharmacy JV Technology Workstream, providing updates on completed work during HVPE meetings.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Pharmacy System Standards and assist users in evaluating applications, hardware, and software.
  • Lead projects and serve as a liaison for implementing and supporting integrated clinical systems.
  • Work with teams to analyze and improve workflows, procedures, and systems.
  • Document policies and procedures related to information systems and develop test plans.
  • Support medication safety initiatives involving Medication Management Technologies, monitoring efficacy and safety outcomes.
  • Track medication-related outcomes for regulatory and contractual compliance.
  • Support pharmaceutical research through precepting residents and students, and through scholarly publications or presentations.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently in a stressful environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Degree from an accredited pharmacy school and completion of a residency or equivalent hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Preferred: PGY2 Residency in Pharmacy Informatics or at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years of pharmacist experience or equivalent training, preferred.
  • Ability to meet practice standards for Level II pharmacists at Henry Ford Detroit Hospital.
  • Leadership skills and teamwork capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a record of research/publications preferred.
  • Experience working with pharmacy students at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Reliability and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Michigan; licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
