Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a Pharmacy Messenger to deliver medications to patient care areas, route dispensed meds, and support the pharmacy team with stocking and packaging tasks.

Under supervision, you will ensure timely deliveries, maintain accuracy, and comply with HIPAA, DC law, JCAHO and hospital policies. Must lift up to 30 pounds and stand for long periods; prior messenger experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year experience as pharmacy messenger preferred; 1 year in hospital/clinic setting preferred.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Email) required.

111 Michigan Avenue Northwest Washington, DC 20010 Kids Are Our Everything. Department 10314 Pharmacy Services Pay Range $18.64 - $36.48 Shift: Variable

Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and Pharmacy Leadership, the Messenger assists in routing and delivering dispensed/prepared medications using the most efficient means possible. Will carry out various distributive and communicative functions for patient care areas, such as notification that meds need to be routed to various units, circulating medications from one unit to another when required, etc. Will also assist the pharmacists and technicians in procedural areas for packaging, maintaining the cleanliness of medication delivery systems, equipment, and devices, distribution of floor stock, and clerical record-keeping duties. The Messenger is expected to perform all functions/duties efficiently and to comply with all regulatory bodies and requirements including HIPAA, DC Law, JCAHO and Hospital Policy and Procedures.

Minimum Education

High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience

1 year Previous experience as a pharmacy messenger (Preferred) 1 year in a hospital or clinic setting (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge

Decision Making and Judgment -Professional competence and common sense. Equipment -Basic knowledge of computer applications (i.e. MS Word, E-mail, etc.).

Physical

ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand and walk for long periods of time. Ability to work in a distribution type of environment.

Functional Accountabilities

  • Deliver medications to patient care areas as needed within established specified timeframes using elevators, stairs, etc.
  • Assist the pharmacists and technicians, according to assignment, to include: stocking and maintaining medications, and supply inventory par levels in all work areas, as well as in drug carts.
  • Assist with delivering and packaging medication as directed, often in emergent situations requiring expediency, accuracy, etc.
  • Remain abreast of departmental communications via emails, staff meeting minutes, hospital intranet, and distributed literature.
  • Comply with all regulatory bodies and requirements including HIPAA, DC Law, JCAHO, and Hospital / Departmental Policy and Procedures.

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children’s National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children’s National compensation philosophy. These factors are legitimate and non-discriminatory including, but not limited to, the current market conditions; organizational needs; the individual’s combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications.
