Position Summary

As part of Cigna Pharmacy Management, the Cigna Pharmacy Sales & Account Management (CP-SAM) Senior Manager serves as the leader of pharmacy benefits strategy and the main pharmacy subject matter expert. This role involves working in partnership with the leadership of the Cigna Medical Sales organization in the West Region, supporting Middle Market and Select Segment clients.

The CP-SAM Senior Manager will develop and maintain relationships within the assigned markets, including internal stakeholders (such as the Market Growth Lead and Sales team), external clients, and local broker/consultant partners to support client retention and growth strategies. The role includes leading and managing a team of Pharmacy Clinical Account Managers and/or Pharmacy Account Executives to deliver results aligned with Cigna's strategic goals. Active in-market participation is essential, fostering collaboration with Medical Sales leadership and supporting integrated market strategies. The CP-SAM Senior Manager will work closely with Pharmacy Sales Directors on market strategies, oversee pharmacy SME support for clients, and lead the development of pharmacy carve-in strategies.

Job Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include:

  1. Retaining the assigned book of business through proactive portfolio management, understanding pharmacy pricing strategies, competitive intelligence, and available performance guarantees.
  2. Collaborating with the Medical Sales team, internal pharmacy partners, clients, and brokers to optimize pharmacy benefits and promote preferred programs and solutions.
  3. Developing and executing educational strategies to enhance pharmacy knowledge within the sales organization and local markets.
  4. Creating market-specific pharmacy business plans to outline sales and training strategies, aiming to expand pharmacy earnings contribution.
  5. Selling pharmacy management programs and solutions that support Cigna's goal of lowering total health costs.
  6. Providing leadership to the pharmacy team supporting Middle Market and Select Segment clients, including hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching.
  7. Ensuring successful client pharmacy implementations, renewals, and benefit changes with risk mitigation strategies.
  8. Optimizing human resources to meet service commitments.
Responsibilities Also Include

For the Market:

  1. Developing and executing market-specific pharmacy service plans to meet financial goals.
  2. Managing client assignments to pharmacy team members.
  3. Supporting and managing the pharmacy team, including hiring and training.
  4. Understanding market competition and contributing to sales and retention strategies.
  5. Maintaining knowledge of Cigna Pharmacy Management’s products and processes.
  6. Building a presence in the market to strengthen pharmacy and PBM knowledge within sales teams.
  7. Supporting client retention and new business growth through consultative selling.
  8. Building relationships with brokers and consultants to support market strategies.
  9. Representing Cigna Pharmacy Management in market meetings and events.

For The Clients:

  1. Leading planning and strategy for pharmacy RFPs/bids, including pricing and final presentations.
  2. Ensuring pharmacy team understands client needs and provides strategic management options.
  3. Educating sales teams on pharmacy management to control costs and deliver value.
  4. Supporting escalation management for pharmacy issues.
  5. Monitoring sales activities and ensuring accurate forecasting.
  6. Ensuring successful client onboarding and plan changes.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years PBM experience, preferably in management supporting client expectations and market strategies.
  • Extensive pharmacy background, pharmacist or non-pharmacist.
  • Experience with client management methodologies.
  • Ownership, accountability, and strategic business planning skills.
  • Expertise in PBM pricing and contracting strategies.
  • Operational knowledge of PBM clinical programs, especially in Specialty Pharmacy.
  • Independent and strategic work capability.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills.
  • Results-driven with the ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Located in-market or with established relationships with local sales leadership and consultants.

If working remotely, internet must be broadband with at least 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload speeds.
