Job description

We are looking for a Pharmacy Manager to join our Pharmacy Services team!

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Senior Manager & Professional Practice Leader (PPL), Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Manager, West 5th and Automation Systems provides leadership, management, and organization of pharmacy operational and quality activities at the W5th campus and provides project management, leadership, strategic direction and oversight of pharmacy-related automation equipment, technologies and related workflows at SJHH (all campuses).

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Working closely with the Pharmacy Management team, plans and manages the effective and safe operation of the West 5th pharmacy medication management system and supports medication system-related quality, customer service, and process improvements, according to the regulatory, safety, and best practice requirements.
• Assumes all human resources management responsibilities for any direct reports.
• In collaboration with pharmacy supervisor, coordinates work assignments, scheduling, performance evaluation, determines training needs and oversees related training/orientation for West 5th pharmacy staff.
• Clearly delineates roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities of direct reports.
• Reviews employee concerns related to attendance, performance, or behavior. Collaborates with Human Resources team for appropriate follow-up as necessary.
• Recruits staff to maintain approved staff complement.
• Provides feedback to other pharmacy managers related to their direct reports’ performance on tasks associated with the West 5th & Automation Systems manager portfolio.
• Works as part of the Pharmacy Management team in strategic planning, quality improvement, budgeting and decision making.
• In collaboration with the Senior Manager & PPL and Director, Pharmacy Services, acts as the official voice in the organization for pharmacy operations at the West 5th campus and for pharmacy automation systems.
• Collaborates with the Senior Manager & PPL, Pharmacy Services to evaluate, plan and implement clinical and medication system-related safety, quality, and process improvements within the pharmacy department.
• Facilitates and oversees the planning, use, ongoing maintenance, and policy/procedure development related to the pharmacy medication management system, including pharmacy automation and technology.
• Oversees activities related to pharmacy inventory, including drug shortage management, procurement, receiving, invoice approvals, drug utilization review, formulary management and non-formulary drug request approvals. Performs these activities within their scope of practice. Collaborates with Senior Manager & PPL, Pharmacy Services to complete any activities which fall outside the scope of their professional practice.
• Develops and strategizes ways to ensure effective implementation and change management for any new initiatives or changes.
• Represents pharmacy services leadership team at W5th campus by participating in committees and medication-related working groups.
• Collaborates with other clinical leaders at the W5th campus to ensure safe and effective delivery of pharmacy services.
• Working closely with Pharmacy Management, Digital Solutions and clinical leaders across all sites, implements and manages the safe and effective operation of automation systems according to regulatory, safety, and best practice requirements. Ensures all work is aligned with the hospital’s and pharmacy services strategic plan.
• Ensures that systems are integrated, all required supplies for operation and maintenance of equipment are available, and that staff members using the systems have access to and/or have received the appropriate training and have met the required competencies to effectively use the technologies.
• In partnership with the pharmacy automation team and Pharmacy Management, oversees the day-to-day operations related to controlled substances management within pharmacy automation, including controlled substance audits, diversion detection, and internal reporting as needed to department leadership.
• Develops continuous improvement process for inventory control in automation and optimization of the automation systems and technologies.
• Cross covers other managers as required.
• Other duties as delegated or assigned by the Senior Manager & PPL or Director, Pharmacy Services

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or entry level PharmD/CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Program required.
• Masters Degree in Pharmacy/PharmD/MBA/MHA/MHM/Health Informatics preferred.
• Hospital Pharmacy Residency preferred.
• Registration in good standing as a Part A Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required.
• Minimum of 5 years recent related practice as a hospital Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician.
• Experience in an academic health sciences centre preferred.
• Must have previous leadership experience, with progressive positions of leadership.
• Demonstrated leadership experience including change management, project management, medication safety and process/quality improvement.
• Demonstrated supervisory, team building, coaching, collaboration, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
• Evidence of effective organizational, analytical, problem-solving, change management and project management experience and skills.
• Takes personal responsibility for delivering service, quality, and safety. Demonstrated emotional self-awareness, assertiveness, optimism, stress tolerance and empathy in a variety of situations.
• Demonstrated application of an evidence-based, scholarly, and creative approach to problem-solving and decision making.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem-solve, implement, and evaluate change.
• Ability to manage a large and diversified workload with often rapidly changing priorities, challenging deadlines and ability to adapt to progressive change.
• Demonstrated flexibility to work effectively with other Pharmacy Managers in rapidly changing and complex environment where roles may overlap, requiring the ability to prioritize and share responsibilities to meet departmental needs.
• Experience with build, testing, implementation and maintenance of pharmacy automation systems and electronic health records required (experience with Epic preferred).
• A minimum of 3-5 years in a role with pharmacy automation experience in an acute care organization or similar setting required.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to organizational and departmental accreditation activities.

LOCATION:
Sites: Primarily W5th Campus but work at all sites is required.
