Job summary

Children's National is seeking an Inventory Control Specialist in Washington, DC to monitor and optimize all inventory operations. Responsibilities include counting, data entry, receiving, storage, and reporting, while reconciling discrepancies and supporting the Warehouse Buyer.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of related experience; associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred. ERP systems experience, especially PeopleSoft, is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (Required) and associate/bachelor's degree preferred.
• 2 years related experience (Required).
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data analysis and ERP systems, including PeopleSoft.

Responsibilities

• Monitor inventory levels and conduct physical counts to maintain accurate on-hand balances.
• Assist inventory Buyer with ordering and resolving purchasing discrepancies.
• Reconcile quantity on hand and unit of measure discrepancies; oversee daily transactions.
• Coordinate deliveries, returns, and proof of deliveries; resolve vendor shipping errors.
• Compile inventory reports (cycle counts, slow/fast movers, demand fluctuations) and review reports weekly.
• Support customer service interactions with sales reps and internal customers.
• Ensure proper storage and handling; maintain organized storage locations.
• Assist with data entry and general inventory system tasks.

About the Role:

The Inventory Control Specialist will be responsible to monitor the accuracy and timeliness of all inventory operations to include: on hand balances, transactions, receiving, handling, storage, and reporting. Will investigate and reconcile inventory discrepancies and monitor demand fluctuations. Will assist Warehouse Buyer and Distribution Manager with tasks as needed.

Required Skills/Knowledge

Basic to moderate proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data analysis, and ERP systems. Experience with Peoplesoft ERP system.

Functional Accountabilities

Inventory Control

• Inventory Control inventory levels by conducting physical counts and maintain accurate on hand inventory balances; adjust on hand balances accordingly.
• Assist with data entry process.
• Assist inventory Buyer place orders and resolve purchasing discrepancies.
• Reconcile quantity on hand and unit of measure discrepancies.
• Oversee and ensure day-to-day inventory transactions are current and accurate.
• Maintain smooth day-to-day inventory systems operations.
• Store product appropriately by designating storage areas; adjusting storage areas according to product requirements and changes, and updating locations.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of goods and supplies.

Receiving

• Coordinate inventory deliveries, return goods, proof of deliveries, correction of vendor shipping errors, and other tasks as needed.
• Authenticate goods and supplies received daily and maintain and resolve discrepancies.

Data and Reporting

• Compile and prepare inventory reports (cycle counting, slow and fast moving items, demand fluctuations, etc.)
• Print and review receiving report weekly.
• Investigate inventory shortages and discrepancies.
• File and maintain inventory records as needed.

Customer Service

• Work with sales reps, internal customers and other members of the department as necessary.
• Maintain physical condition of inventory space.
• Follow orders and complete all assigned tasks as delegated by the Distribution Manager.
