Job summary

UPMC Community Pharmacies is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to join the Outpatient Pharmacy at CHP Main Campus – Pint Size Prescriptions. The role involves supporting pharmaceutical care for patients leaving the hospital and those visiting for clinic appointments, with shifts including daylight, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The intern will assist in medication distribution, order entry, and documentation under supervision of the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist, gaining hands-on experience

Qualifications

• Good standing in an accredited School of Pharmacy.
• Entering P1 year or above.
• Applied for intern license within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacist with medication distribution, delivering medication, refilling automated dispensing cabinets, and exchanging emergency medication carts.
• Fill medication orders and maintain patient profiles, performing prepackaging.
• Prepare IV admixtures/chemotherapy and controlled substance orders.
• Assist with medication review, including computer order entry, monitoring allergies, formulary decisions, and drug interactions.
• Complete departmental documentation and billing by end of each scheduled shift.
• Complete clinical workload documentation by end of each scheduled shift.
• Use information systems, robotics, and other applications to prepare medication labels and assist with dispensing.
• Demonstrate a service orientation in all interpersonal relations and present a professional image.
• Prepare drug information responses and medication use evaluations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
• Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
