Job summary

Price Chopper Supermarkets-Market 32 is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to gain practical experience under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. You will assist with prescription preparation, inventory management, and customer service while adhering to state laws and company policies.

You will participate in immunization counseling and potentially immunizations, if qualified, and perform Medication Therapy Management interventions under supervision.

Qualifications

• Must successfully complete first professional year of pharmacy study.
• Preferable to have been a pharmacy teammate for minimum of 6 months.
• State licensed pharmacy intern permit where applicable.
• 1 year previous experience in a community pharmacy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complies with all state and federal regulations related to the practice of pharmacy.
• Counsels patients in the use of medications in a confidential manner.
• Receives new prescriptions via phone; interprets written prescriptions from prescribers.
• Obtains information for new prescriptions including name, address, DOB, insurance, allergies, and phone number.
• Processes prescriptions accurately including entering details, dispensing, partial fills and ordering as needed.
• Develops knowledge of inventory control, ordering, adjustments, outdates, and returns to vendors.
• Works to ensure optimal workflow and manages patient wait times.
• Assists in determining third party plan eligibility; resolves billing issues with patients.
• Ensures medications are dispensed at POS to the correct patient and verifies DOB.
• Responds to questions about medications, OTCs, and supplements with pharmacist guidance.
• Participates in immunization counseling, paperwork, and documentation.
• Administers immunizations under supervision when qualified.
• Completes Medication Therapy Management interventions including outreach and billing.
