Job summary

Giant Eagle is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to join our team. You will contribute toward a service‑minded pharmacy and build strong relationships with patients while ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient care and customer service to achieve top patient and company outcomes.

You will support inventory, prescriptions, and patient interactions while adhering to HIPAA and company policies. This role involves cash handling, ordering, and assisting the pharmacist to deliver quality care.

Qualifications

• Experience 0 to 6 months in pharmacy or related field
• ACPE-accredited pharmacy degree program enrollment required
• Active in-state Pharmacy Intern License

Responsibilities

• Maintain proper inventory levels by submitting online orders, adjusting order points and quantities, and assisting in physical inventories
• Keep a neat and compliant work area per company and government rules
• File written prescriptions daily
• Assist Team Members to keep the department running smoothly
• Review service and business metrics and support action plans to improve outcomes
• Perform pharmacy technician duties as needed
• Welcome patients at pharmacy entry points with compassion and a smile
• Provide patient care by guiding patients to products and answering questions, referring prescription questions to the pharmacist
• Process sales at the cash register per POS procedures
• Support safe and efficient dispensing of medications and durable medical equipment
• Comply with Giant Eagle and Pharmacy policies including HIPAA and pseudoephedrine regulations
• Enter patient data and insurance information
• Enter all prescription information including calculations and directions
• Ensure proper documentation for transmission to insurance providers and billing choices
• Escalate drug utilization reviews and third-party rejections; rebill claims and manage refills
• Process medical expense reports
• Support company initiatives and programs

Education

High school degree or equivalent

ACPE-accredited pharmacy degree program enrollment
