Job summary

Mount Carmel Health System in Ohio seeks a Director of Pharmacy to lead the North Region across multiple hospitals, guiding pharmacy teams and advancing clinical excellence, medication safety, and innovative care models.

As regional pharmacy leader, you will influence system strategy, develop the next generation of pharmacy professionals, and partner with interdisciplinary leaders to improve patient outcomes and community health.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacist license in Ohio required.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree required; Master’s in Hospital Pharmacy or management preferred or 10 years experience in lieu.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in Pharmacy Services.
  • Ability to assure quality, safety, productivity and control costs.

Responsibilities

  • Develops clinical strategies to ensure appropriate use of pharmaceutical agents across care transitions.
  • Manages operating and capital budgets and monitors financial performance for site/program and region.
  • Oversees medication safety culture and aligns practices with regulations.
  • Coaches, guides and develops managers and staff; recruits and retains pharmacy personnel.

As the regional pharmacy leader for Mount Carmel's North Region, you'll guide pharmacy teams across multiple hospitals while advancing clinical excellence, medication safety, and innovative care models. This role offers the opportunity to influence health system strategy, develop the next generation of pharmacy professionals, and partner with interdisciplinary leaders to drive meaningful change that enhances outcomes for patients and communities.

Position Purpose:

Director of Pharmacy, will work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to provide administrative support and direction while implementing and overseeing the delivery of pharmaceutical care. Responsible for managing performance, planning, financial performance, quality and safety. Functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization and according to federal and state regulations.

What You Will Do:

  • Clinical Excellence: Develops and/or implements clinical strategies to ensure appropriate and responsible use of pharmaceutical agents and related products to achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the continuum/transitions of care.

  • Financial Performance: Ensures financial performance, for site/program and Mount Carmel region, through the development and monitoring of the operating and capital budgets for areas of responsibility. Demonstrates site/program leadership for regional and system drug spend savings initiatives.

  • Culture of Medication Safety: Responsible for overseeing optimal medication management practices that align with a culture of safety within the site/program and region, including controlled and non-controlled substances.

  • Managing performance: Provides coaching, support, guidance and developmental opportunities for managers, pharmacists, technical and support staff in designated areas; evaluates performance in terms of skills, knowledge, ability and productivity. Develops managers, effectively recruits, develops, counsels, manages and retains pharmacy staff. Supports fair and consistent Human Resource policy execution.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor or Doctor of Pharmacy required. Master of Science degree in Hospital Pharmacy or other advanced professional or management degree is required or 10 years progressively challenging experience in lieu of Master's degree.

  • Licensure / Certification: Current license to practice as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of Ohio.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience in supervisory or department manager positions in a Pharmacy Services Department of comparable size and scope preferred.

  • Abilities to assure quality, safety, productivity and operational costs.
