Job summary

Encompass Health Corporation is seeking a Pharmacy Director to lead the pharmacy department, ensure safe and efficient provision of services, and guide staff through continuous improvement. You will oversee operations, budgets, and compliance while delivering direct patient care and collaborating across hospital committees.

The role emphasizes antimicrobial stewardship, medication safety, and education of the team in a fast-moving inpatient rehabilitation setting.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy degree from a US-accredited program or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Licensed pharmacist in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the pharmacy department operations, staffing, and scheduling.
• Provide direct patient and pharmaceutical care with a focus on safety.
• Educate staff on pharmaceutical care and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain competence in clinical health system pharmacy practices and antimicrobial stewardship.
• Collaborate with Controller on departmental budgets for staffing, drugs, and supplies.
• Serve on hospital committees (Quality Assurance, Formulary, P&T) as needed.

Be the Pharmacy Director You've Always Strived to Be

• Convey the mission of the hospital and organization to pharmacy staff, holding them accountable for performance, while motivating them to enhance and develop their capabilities.
• Oversee the pharmacy department's operations, including scheduling, continuous assessment, and the implementation of process improvements to optimize department performance.
• Provide direct patient and pharmaceutical care.
• Demonstrate and maintain competence in clinical health system pharmacy practices, including antimicrobial stewardship, non-sterile and sterile drug preparation, controlled substances, hospital pharmacy accreditation, anticoagulation drug therapy management, and medication safety.
• Educate staff on pharmaceutical care and medication management, ensuring the pharmacy consistently complies with local, state, and national regulations.
• Stay current with new medications, indications, and evidence-based medicine. Collaborate with the Controller to prepare and manage departmental budgets for staffing, drugs, and supplies.
• Actively serve and lead various hospital committees, including Quality Assurance, Formulary, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, MEC, and Safety, as needed.

License or Certification:

• Licensed in good standing by the State Pharmacy Board for the State in which the hospital is located.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a pharmacy degree from a U.S.-accredited program or from an international program evaluated by a recognized certifying agency as substantially equivalent to U.S. accreditation standards required.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
