Job summary

Reporting Relations

Accountable to and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health, Wellness, Home, Store Operations and Perishables; Pharmacy Department Manager; and Pharmacists. No positions report to this role.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  • Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner throughout the store.
  • Learn and address customers by name whenever possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and provide friendly, helpful service.
  • Stock received products and supplies, marking stickers appropriately.
  • Collaborate with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Review prescriptions not picked up as requested by the department manager.
  • Order product and supplies on the department manager’s request.
  • Review invoices on product received.
  • Coordinate nursing home medicines as necessary.
  • Log invoices as needed.
  • Prepare paperwork and compile medicine for delivery orders and mail-outs as requested.
  • Clean, empty garbage, and maintain a clean and inviting appearance of the pharmacy.
  • Take orders for prescription refills from customers.
  • Remove trash promptly.
  • Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Gather patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
  • Keep pharmacy supplies well stocked.
  • Perform cash transactions.
  • Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Report to work when scheduled and on time.
  • Administer vaccines as allowed by law.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete sales transactions.
  • Assist in other areas of the store as needed.
  • Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions.
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data; interview for basic information; and guide people.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Six months to one year of similar or related experience. Vaccination certification, if applicable and required by law.

Physical Requirements
  • Occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds, frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds, and negligible exertion at all times.
  • Visual requirements: vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction; depth perception; color vision; and field of vision.
  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Fast‑paced environment with significant pressure and daily noise. Occasional exposure to dangerous chemicals/solvents while compounding products and chemotherapy drugs.

  • PC with pharmacy software and printer
  • Cash register, pharmacy balance, scanner, calculator, telephone, fax, and copier.
Confidentiality

Maintains the confidentiality of the customer’s private medical information. Acknowledges the risk of exposure to hazardous drugs and follows pharmacy policies to minimize that risk.

Contacts & Responsibilities

Deals with the general public daily, works with suppliers/vendors monthly, and assists with hazardous drug handling per USP 800.
