Job summary

UnitedHealth Group, through Optum, seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support post-discharge medication management and ensure accurate medication histories in a fast-paced healthcare setting. Under licensed pharmacist supervision, you will review records, navigate EMRs, and contribute to patient safety.

Location: Remote in US time zones; Draper, Utah residents may work remotely with MST schedule. Monday–Friday, 8am–4:30pm MST. This role offers comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Utah Pharmacy Technician license and National Certification required.
  • Retail pharmacy experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical records after discharge.
  • Navigate multiple EMR systems to access patient data.
  • Review labs, H&P, provider notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Outreach to members post-discharge to update medication lists.
  • Coordinate with providers to confirm patient/provider relationships.
  • Identify medication discrepancies and review Rx claims data.
  • Prepare detailed reports for pharmacist reviews.
  • Communicate across care teams to support coordination of care.

Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this role supports high-quality, compassionate patient care while adapting to the dynamic healthcare environment. Responsibilities include obtaining and reviewing post-discharge medical records, navigating multiple electronic medical record systems (EMRs), and analyzing clinical documents such as labs, history & physicals, provider notes, and discharge summaries.

The position involves conducting outreaches to members to update medication lists, coordinating with providers to confirm care relationships, and following up on clinical recommendations. Additional duties include identifying medication discrepancies, reviewing prescription claims data, and preparing detailed reports for pharmacist reviews.

Candidates will collaborate across care teams to support coordination efforts and must be able to work both independently and effectively in a fast-paced, evolving setting.

Location

Remote in PST, MST, or CST time zones. Must be willing and able to work MST schedule. If you are located in Draper, Utah, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm MST

Primary Responsibilities
  • Obtain medical records pertaining to recent discharge
  • Navigate multiple EMRs
  • Review medical documents such as labs, H&P, provider notes, and discharge summaries
  • Outreach directly (outbound calls) to members post-discharge to obtain an updated medication list
  • May outreach to providers to confirm patient/ provider relationship
  • Follow-up with member provider on recommendations
  • Identify medication discrepancies
  • Review of Rx claims data
  • Prepare organized and detailed reports for pharmacist review
  • May have cross-team communication for coordination of care
  • Works independently

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Current, clear, and unrestricted Pharmacy Technician licensure in state of Utah
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • 1+ years of retail pharmacy experience
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Teams, and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
  • EMR experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $18.00 to $32.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
