Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a Pharmacy Purchasing Technician to manage drug and supply inventories in a hospital setting. You will place orders for the main pharmacy and satellite areas, maintain systems, and ensure compliance with 340b requirements.

Ideal candidates have hospital pharmacy experience, hold a valid Pharmacy Technician license, and can label chemotherapy agents accurately. Prior involvement in formulary pricing and purchasing is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Two years of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Valid state Temporary, Limited, or Full Pharmacy Technician License; if current candidate has a state Temporary Pharmacy Technician License, a valid state Full Pharmacy Technician license must be obtained within 365 days of issuance.
  • Prepares and labels chemotherapy agents.

Responsibilities

  • Checks medication, IV fluid, and supply stock daily and orders accordingly.
  • Places orders for main pharmacy, satellite areas and ancillary departments.
  • Maintains and monitors wholesaler electronic ordering system to create and place orders daily.
  • Uses split billing software daily to comply with 340b program requirements.
  • Participates in inventory management and assigns par levels with pharmacy managers.
  • Maintains stock shelves with current identification name and order number.
  • Ensures new medications are added to computer systems.
  • Manages medication backorders and recalls and reviews with managers.

Job description

Responsible for providing efficient, cost-effective, and consistent purchase management of pharmaceuticals and other supplies and materials. Provides inventory control while maintaining the availability of drugs needed for patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • Checks medication, IV fluid, and supply stock daily, and orders accordingly based on buying and delivery schedules.
  • Places orders for main pharmacy, pharmacy satellite areas and ancillary departments.
  • Maintains and monitors wholesaler electronic ordering system to create and place orders daily.
  • Uses split billing software daily to comply with 340b program requirements and ensure medications are ordered on appropriate accounts.
  • Actively participates in inventory management and assigns par levels in collaboration with pharmacy managers.
  • Maintains stock shelves with current identification name and order number.
  • Ensures all new medications have been added to necessary computer systems.
  • Manages medication backorders and recalls. Meets with managers to review on a regular basis.
  • Processes product recalls and ensures all recalled products are removed and returned in a timely manner.
  • Works with pharmacy managers to evaluate order quantities and ordering information of all routine and special request (non-formulary) items.
  • Maintains purchase logs.
  • Reviews and reconciles borrow and loan transactions with outside facilities and maintains list of approved and restricted facilities.
  • Maintains pricing tool and responds to requests for billing audit information
  • Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Required:
  • Two years of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Valid state Temporary, Limited, or Full Pharmacy Technician License; if current candidate has a state Temporary Pharmacy Technician License, a valid state Full Pharmacy Technician license must be obtained within 365 days of issuance.
  • Prepares and labels chemotherapy agents
Preferred:
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician with experience and skills in all hospital technician functions.
  • One year of experience in purchasing related activities.
  • Prior experience with formulary price database maintenance.
