Responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit insurance claims to third-party payers for patients receiving Pharmacy care
  • Review electronic health records to determine billable charges and ensure accurate submission of claims
  • Maintain organized file systems for billed claims and backup documentation for audits
  • Verify insurance coverage, follow up on submitted claims, and resolve issues with claims
  • Respond to inquiries from patients, physicians, and insurance companies regarding billing questions
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • For Pharmacy Billing Specialist II: One (1) year of pharmacy billing experience or equivalent education/training
  • For Pharmacy Billing Specialist III: Three (3) years of professional experience at Alaska Native Medical Center Pharmacy or related experience
  • For Pharmacy Billing Specialist IV: Five (5) years of professional experience at Alaska Native Medical Center Pharmacy or related experience
  • Current Pharmacy Technician License required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification within one year of employment for Pharmacy Billing Specialist I
  • Prior experience in a healthcare billing environment
  • Knowledge of medical billing and accounting procedures and applications
  • Familiarity with commercial insurance and government reimbursement programs
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain cooperative working relationships
