Job summary

Samaritan Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy team in dispensing medications, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards.

The role requires effective communication, familiarity with Meditech/Omnicell, and a goal to obtain Pharmacy Technician Certification within one year of hire. Oregon-based position with 80 hours per pay period.

Qualifications

• At least one year of pharmacy work experience desired.
• Preference for candidates pursuing Pharmacy Technician Certification within 1 year.
• NYs registration and sterile compounding certificate required for IV room work.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.
• Maintain department policies and procedures and Joint Commission standards.
• Perform inventory control including stock rotation and audits.
• Enter medication charges accurately in the system.
• Operate Meditech and Omnicell systems and troubleshoot issues as needed.
• Maintain IV room certification responsibilities and related cleaning duties.
• Provide outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
• Perform duties in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

• Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.
• Obtains and maintains appropriate knowledge and understanding of the department Policies and Procedures as well as Joint Commission medication management standards.
• Performs essential functions related to inventory control such as rotating stock, replenishing stock, performing medication audits and monitoring for outdates.
• Performs activities as directed in accordance with federal, state and local laws/regulations and hospital policies.
• Delivers outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
• Operates computer systems and utilizes technology such as Meditech and Omnicell. May need to troubleshoot issues with equipment and discrepancies.
• Responsible for entering medication charges in system accurately.
• Performs essential functions related to maintaining IV room certification such as cleaning of IV room and surrounding areas.
• The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned in alignment with experience and education. (For example, medication historian duties, or IV room duties.)

At least one year of previous pharmacy work experience is desired. The goal is to achieve Pharmacy Technician Certification within 1 year of date of hire. Retail experience preferred for medication historian role.

NYS registration and sterile compounding certificate required for IV room compounding. Additional certifications might be required specific to job duties assigned.
