Job summary

Samaritan Medical Center is hiring a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy team on the Day Shift. You will assist with preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications, while maintaining compliance with department policies and Joint Commission standards.

The role emphasizes inventory control, charge entry, and IV room responsibilities. Prior pharmacy experience is valued; NYS registration and sterile compounding certification are required for IV duties.

Qualifications

• At least one year of pharmacy-related work experience is desired.
• NYS registration and sterile compounding certificate required for IV room duties.
• Willingness to obtain Pharmacy Technician Certification within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Assists the pharmacist in preparation, dispensing and distribution of medications.
• Maintains knowledge of department policies and Joint Commission standards.
• Handles inventory control, stock rotation and medication audits.
• Enter medication charges accurately and support IV room duties.
• Operate Meditech and Omnicell systems and troubleshoot issues.

• Must communicate effectively and show eagerness to learn
• Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing and/or distribution of medications.
• Obtains and maintains appropriate knowledge and understanding of the department Policies and Procedures as well as Joint Commission medication management standards.
• Performs essential functions related to inventory control such as rotating stock, replenishing stock, performing medication audits and monitoring for outdates.
• Performs activities as directed in accordance with federal, state and local laws/regulations and hospital policies.
• Delivers outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
• Operates computer systems and utilizes technology such as Meditech and Omnicell. May need to troubleshoot issues with equipment and discrepancies.
• Responsible for entering medication charges in system accurately.
• Performs essential functions related to maintaining IV room certification such as cleaning of IV room and surrounding areas.
• The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned in alignment with experience and education. (For example, medication historian duties, or IV room duties.)

At least one year of previous pharmacy work experience is desired. The goal is to achieve Pharmacy Technician Certification within 1 year of date of hire. Retail experience preferred for medication historian role.

NYS registration and sterile compounding certificate required for IV room compounding. Additional certifications might be required specific to job duties assigned.
