Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a Pharmacy Financial Analyst to support fiscal management, data analytics, and reporting for the Pharmacy Department. The role collaborates with clinicians, staff, and administration to optimize costs and patient access to medications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT/Business/Hospital Admin/Accounting/Finance required
  • Associates degree plus 2 years pharmacy experience with financial reporting
  • High School Diploma plus Certified Pharmacy Technician and 4 years healthcare experience or 3 years with financial reporting/data analytics

Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily medication charges and ensure correct documentation and charging.
  • Add, delete, or correct charges in the charge master as needed.
  • Utilize indigent care programs for inpatient and outpatient medications.
  • Coordinate with Clinical Specialists for medication authorizations and patient assistance.
  • Identify patients needing medication pre-certification or prior authorization.
  • Contact insurance to determine eligibility and benefits for services.
  • Research departmental issues and involve IT/finance as needed.
  • Maintain database of payer provisions and regulations.
  • Optimize Enterprise automated systems to improve revenue/expenses.
  • Assist Pharmacy Analyst with monitoring purchases for contract compliance and pricing.
  • Assist with monthly budget reviews.
  • Pull data to compile profiles and reports for expenses and budgets.
  • Provide scheduled and ad hoc reports to staff and management.
  • Generate monthly pharmacy spend reports and communicate optimization opportunities.
  • Review expenditures by account and cost center; escalate discrepancies.
  • Identify irregular spending and system failures and report to Director.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve systems interface and problem resolution.
  • Support committee functions with financial data for drug evaluation and therapeutic interchanges.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals and productivity improvements.
  • Participate in staff education on medication use and billing.
