Position Details

Texas Oncology Round Rock is seeking a Pharmacy Technician (IV Admixture) to support the pharmacy located at 2410 Round Rock Ave #150, Round Rock, TX 78681. This is a full‑time Monday‑to‑Friday position with alternating shifts of 8:00 AM–4:30 PM and 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. The role is classified as Level 1, Level 2, or Senior based on experience.

What the Pharmacy Tech Does

Under direct supervision of a physician or registered pharmacist, the Admixture Technician performs technical, non‑judgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control. Tasks are verified sequentially or finally by an RN or pharmacist. The technician supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Certain state laws may restrict who may perform compounding or mixing duties; incumbents prohibited from these tasks will not be assigned those responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision.
• Check all orders for completeness and verify patient information and proper physician authorization.
• Admix drugs as ordered by a physician in an accurate and timely manner, adhering to departmental, OSHA, and interoffice guidelines.
• Calculate correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
• Assist in controlled substance record keeping in accordance with practice guidelines, state and federal regulations.
• Dispose of materials used in mixing chemo or non‑chemo IVs in accordance with practice guidelines, state, and federal law.
• Clean hoods daily, check drugs monthly for out‑dates, and perform and document other quality assurance activities.
• Maintain accurate temperature logs and logs for protocol and patient assistance drugs.
• Manage inventory appropriately, including proper documentation of inventory quantities, lot numbers, and expiration dates when appropriate.
• Provide support across the medication‑use continuum including label preparation, documentation, basic data entry, and pre‑billing review, and order medications and supplies as directed.
• Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admixture area and the pharmacy department in accordance with state rules and USP compliance.

Qualifications

Level 1

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Entry‑level experience in a pharmacy.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate recommended unless required by state law.
• IV sterile compounding experience highly preferred.

Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements)

• Minimum of one year of experience in a pharmacy with IV skills.
• IV certification preferred.

Level Senior (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements)

• Minimum five years of experience in a pharmacy with IV skills.
• Oncology background preferred or extensive IV preparation experience.
• Completion of an ASHP accredited program or community college‑based program recommended.

Physical Demands

Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination. Ability to read and note appropriate measurements. Requires sitting/standing for extensive periods. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to the normal range.
