Job summary

Akicita Federal in Fort Yates, ND and McLaughlin, SD seeks Pharmacists to deliver safe, patient-centered pharmaceutical care for the IHS Standing Rock Service Unit. You will review orders, counsel patients, and collaborate with care teams to ensure high-quality medication management.

Role involves after-hours coverage as needed and participation in quality improvement to advance medication safety across the service unit. Prior IHS, rural, or FQHC experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Experience in IHS, Tribal, or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) settings.
  • Familiarity with IHS EHR or similar government health systems.
  • Experience in rural or critical-access hospital environments.
  • Background in clinical pharmacy services such as anticoagulation or diabetes care.
  • Knowledge of Native American communities and culturally responsive care.

  • Review, process, and manage medication orders per IHS policies and regulations.
  • Provide clinical pharmacy support including reconciliation, monitoring, and drug info.
  • Counsel patients on use, safety, adherence, and interactions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and care teams to optimize therapy.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in the IHS EHR system.
  • Support after-hours pharmacy coverage as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement and medication safety initiatives.

Job description

Akicita Federal is hiring Pharmacists to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care for the Indian Health Service (IHS) Standing Rock Service Unit (SRSU) in Fort Yates, ND and McLaughlin, SD. In this role, you will serve Tribal community members at Fort Yates Hospital and McLaughlin IHS Clinic, ensuring uninterrupted pharmacy operations and high-quality medication management. This is meaningful, mission-driven work that directly supports the health and wellbeing of Indigenous patients across the Standing Rock region.

  • Review, process, and manage medication orders in accordance with IHS pharmacy policies and applicable Federal and State regulations
  • Provide clinical pharmacy support including medication reconciliation, therapy monitoring, and drug information consultations with providers
  • Counsel patients on medication use, adherence, safety, and potential drug interactions
  • Collaborate with IHS physicians, nurses, and care teams to optimize pharmacotherapy and support patient safety initiatives
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation within the IHS Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
  • Support after-hours pharmacy coverage at Fort Yates Hospital as operationally required
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and contribute to medication safety initiatives across the service unit
What sets candidates apart:
  • Prior experience working in an IHS, Tribal, or federally qualified health center (FQHC) pharmacy setting
  • Familiarity with the IHS Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform or similar government healthcare systems
  • Experience providing pharmacy services in a rural or critical-access hospital environment
  • Background in clinical pharmacy services such as anticoagulation management, diabetes care, or chronic disease medication therapy management
  • Knowledge of or connection to Native American communities and culturally responsive healthcare practices
