Job description

Join to apply for the Pharmacist, Rx Partners (Kane Pharmacy) role at UPMC.

UPMC Rx Partners is looking for a casual Pharmacist to join their dedicated team at the Kane Pharmacy location.

You will ensure the provision of cost-effective pharmacotherapy contributing to optimal patient outcomes, provide experiential education for present and future healthcare practitioners, and support drug-related research.

Kane Pharmacy is open seven days a week, from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday, and 8 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

You will work an 8-hour shift two to three times a week on a rotating schedule, including weekend shifts once every six weeks, and one night on-call shift.

Responsibilities:
  1. Review, maintain, and screen patient medication records and profiles for allergies, drug interactions, and therapeutic duplications while entering orders and verifying medications.
  2. Identify and report suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.
  3. Interpret and evaluate physician orders to prepare, calculate, and dispense appropriate medication dosages for inpatient and outpatient treatment, in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
  4. Prepare and dispense intravenous admixture solutions using aseptic technique in a sterile environment.
  5. Organize daily operational duties and assist in supervising pharmacy staff and interns.
  6. Fill prescription orders in compliance with regulations, utilizing technological resources.
  7. Utilize available technologies (e.g., computer systems, robotics, pneumatic tube system) in pharmaceutical care.
  8. Provide drug information and educational programs to healthcare professionals and students.
  9. Communicate with physicians and nurses for clarification of orders.
  10. Maintain formulary standards and promote rational drug therapy.
  11. Adhere to all regulatory and professional standards in pharmaceutical care.
  12. Qualifications include a B.S. or Pharm D. degree from an accredited pharmacy school, with 3-6 months hospital experience preferred, and familiarity with investigational drug procedures is a plus.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Pharmacist license required.
