Job summary

Guthrie Clinic is seeking a per diem Pharmacist for inpatient hospital duties in Corning, NY. You will prepare and dispense medications for patients within the Hospital Pharmacy, and support daily operations of the Pharmacy Department.

Responsibilities include drug information dissemination, IV admixtures, DUE participation, ADR reporting, and supervision of Pharmacy Technicians. A NYS pharmacist license is required; PA license preferred. Travel may be involved.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
• Current NYS pharmacist license and preferably PA license.
• Hospital pharmacy experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Dispenses medications per established department procedures.
• Extemporaneous preparation of medications.
• Disseminates drug information to physicians and staff on drug availability, warnings, incompatibilities, and contraindications.
• Advises other hospital departments and staff on pharmaceutical matters.
• Monitors dispensing of controlled substances and maintains records per laws and procedures.
• Prepares intravenous admixtures, piggyback meds, TPNs, and chemotherapy doses.
• Participates in Drug Utilization Evaluation (DUE) to ensure cost-effective pharmacotherapy.
• Participates in ADR reporting.
• Engages in continuing education to maintain licensure and competency.
• Supports pharmacy student externs through the Professional Experience Program (PEP).
• Analyzes and evaluates department procedures to improve future operations at Corning Hospital.
• Provides supervision and assistance to Pharmacy Technicians as needed.
• Keeps informed on current trends through seminars and journal readings.
• Adheres to all departmental and organizational policies.

This is an inpatient Pharmacist position.

Position Summary

Responsible for preparing and dispensing medications for patients within the Hospital. Provides those other services which may be required as part of the daily operating activities of the Pharmacy Department; compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies, using standard physical and clinical procedures to fill written prescriptions issued by physicians, dentists, and other qualified prescribers.

Education, License & Cert

Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy. License Current License as pharmacist in NYS and preferably PA.

Experience

Previous experience in hospital pharmacy practice preferred but not required.

Essential Functions

• 1. Dispenses medications per established department procedures.
• 2. Extemporaneous preparation of medications.
• 3. Compiles and disseminates drug information; provides information to physicians and other staff members on availability of new drugs, warnings on currently marketed drugs, incompatibility of certain drugs, and contraindications of drugs and other pharmaceuticals.
• 4. Acts in an advisory capacity to other hospital departments and staff with regard to relevant aspects of pharmaceutical science.
• 5. Monitors dispensing of controlled medications and maintains control substance records, poisons, as required by Federal and State laws and per established department procedures.
• 6. Prepares intravenous admixtures, piggyback medications, TPN's, and chemotherapy doses.
• 7. Participates in DUE (Drug Induced Evaluation) to ensure appropriate pharmacotherapy is delivered in a cost effective manner.
• 8. Participates in ADR reporting process.
• 9. Participated in continuing education programs to maintain professional competency and licensure.
• 10. Participates in PEP (Professional Experience Program) for pharmacy student externs.
• 11. Analyzes and evaluates department procedures with a view toward the future of the needs and operation of the Pharmacy Department at Corning Hospital.
• 12. Provides supervision of and lends assistance, as needed, to the Pharmacy Technicians.
• 13. Stays informed on current trends and issues in the field through attendance at seminars, as necessary, and journal readings.
• 14. Adheres to all departmental and organizational policies and procedures.

• 1. Travel for this position is sometimes required.
• 2. Participation in community and employee engagement activities is required.

The contracted rate of pay for this per diem position is $81.18/hr
