Job summary

AvaMed Workforce is seeking a licensed Pharmacist for a temporary/relief assignment at a correctional facility in Coalinga, CA. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00am to 4:30pm and an orientation period of two weeks.

The Pharmacist will verify prescriptions, dispense medications, maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, supervise drug records, and provide clinical consultations under the Pharmacist-in-Charge.

Qualifications

• Active California Pharmacist license required.
• Correctional/institutional pharmacy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and verify prescriptions for completeness, accuracy and legality.
• Dispense drugs and pharmaceutical preparations under the Pharmacist‑in‑Charge.
• Supervise records of drugs and poisons as required by law.
• Provide consultations to medical staff and discharge planning as needed.

AvaMed Workforce is a Healthcare Staffing Agency that staffs all of California State Correctional Facilities. At the moment we are in URGENT need of a Pharmacist to take on a Full-Time assignment at the correctional facility located in Coalinga, CA. The provider will be working out of a separate office building.

Position Details:

40 Hours per week

Location: Coalinga, CA

Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm

(Orientation 2 weeks, must be flexible)

Rate: $65/hr as an independent contractor

Must have active License from the State of California Board of Pharmacy

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Pharmacist-in-Charge and/or the Institution’s Chief Executive Officer/Chief Medical Executive (CEO/CME) or designee, the Temporary/Relief PHARM shall provide services as permitted within the scope of practice. The PHARM duties shall include, but are not limited to the following requirements:

• Review and verify prescription/medication order(s) from the Pharmacist-in-Charge, CEO/CME, or other authorized CDCR prescribers for completeness, correctness, authenticity and legality;
• Assess prescription/medication order(s) against patient's/youth's medical profile for improper drug selection, under-dosage, dosage, over-dosage, drug interactions, dosage form and delivery system;
• Assess prescription against Formulary for compliance, and refer non-formulary requests as required for approval when necessary;
• Manage or directly prepare, manufacture, compound and dispense drugs and pharmaceutical preparations;
• Manage or directly perform computer order entry and type prescription labels;
• Manage or directly fill prescription/medication orders and prepare or check l.V. Admixtures as required;
• Provide consultations to medical staff and the Medical Authorization Review Committee and provide discharge consultations as required;
• Supervise and directly maintain records of drugs, poisons, and narcotics as required by Federal and State Laws;
• Supervise and directly maintain records of drugs, poisons, and chemicals received, on hand and dispensed;
• Implement and/or maintain medication delivery systems in accordance with directives from the System wide P&T Committee;
• As required by the Pharmacist-in-Charge, assist in the preparation of estimates for the requisition of drugs required;
• Monitor and instruct Pharmacy Technicians in standard and routine phases of the work, as appropriate; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.
