Job summary

HCA Healthcare's Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy role at TriStar Centennial Medical Center offers hands-on involvement in multidisciplinary rounds and specialized oncology care. You will serve as a drug information resource, help develop and implement chemotherapy-related protocols, and ensure safe dosing and infusion verification for pediatric patients.

The role requires TN pharmacist licensure or eligibility, hospital experience, and a PGY-2 in Pediatrics or Oncology preferred; ACLS/BLS

Qualifications

  • Current TN Pharmacist licensure or eligible for licensure
  • One-year hospital experience or equivalent
  • PGY-2 in Pediatrics or Hematology/Oncology preferred; Board Certification in Pediatrics or Oncology preferred, within 2 years if none
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date

Responsibilities

  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient care
  • Participate in daily rounds and provide drug information for oncology/hematology questions
  • Develop and implement chemotherapy-related protocols
  • Evaluate and enter chemotherapy protocols and verify outpatient infusions
  • Investigate drug services, pharmacokinetic dosing, and onsite order verification
  • Perform pharmacy surveillance and error reporting
  • Conduct profile reviews and participate in code blue response and pharmacy consults

The role of the pharmacist in this specific area includes but is not limited to: working with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient care, participating in daily rounds, serving as a drug information resource for oncology/hematology-related questions, conducting education sessions with nursing, developing and implementing new chemotherapy-related protocols, evaluating and entering chemotherapy protocols, verifying outpatient infusions, investigational drug services, pharmacokinetic dosing, onsite order verification, pharmacy surveillance and error reporting, profile reviews, code blue response, pharmacy consults, developing processes to prepare patient-specific formulations, etc.

Job Summary and Qualifications

What you will do in this role:

  • You will utilize good problem-solving abilities, making sure that problems are resolved, calling on other knowledgeable parties as necessary.
  • You will maintain strong knowledge of hospital policies and government regulations and dispense accordingly.
  • You will consult with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient reactions, errors and complaints.
  • You will determine and consult on possible drug interactions.
  • You will assist with quality improvement initiatives, inventory and ordering of pharmaceuticals.
  • You will monitor, record and communicate as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
  • You will utilize knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Current TN Pharmacist licensure or eligible for licensure
  • One-year hospital experience or equivalent
  • PGY-2 in Pediatrics or Hematology/Oncology and/or extensive pediatric experience is preferred; Board Certification in Pediatrics or Oncology is preferred, expected within 2 years if no Excellent communication and computer skills
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
  • Doctorate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
