Job summary

Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune seeks a Pharmacist Physician to support pain management services. The role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to optimize pharmacotherapy, counsel patients, and coordinate care across inpatient and ambulatory settings.

The candidate must hold a Pharm.D., complete a clinical pharmacy residency or equivalent CME, and maintain BLS certification with licensure to practice. Experience in pain management and telemedicine is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) is required.
• Completion of a clinical pharmacy residency or fellowship or documented CME in clinical pharmacy.
• Current BLS certification; board certification or eligibility in pain management preferred.
• At least 12 months of direct patient care in relevant settings; pain management experience strongly preferred.
• Current, full, active license to practice as a pharmacist.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize pain management for patients.
• Provide drug therapy recommendations and manage polypharmacy; educate patients on changes in therapy.
• Conduct medication reviews and reconciliation for chronic pain patients and address non-compliance or diversion histories.

Clinical Pharmacist Pain Management

Work hours: Services shall be provided five (5) days per week, between the hours of 0600 and 1800 excluding the day of observance of federal holidays. The HCWs shall be assigned an 8 to10-hour shift to include a 30- or 60-minute uncompensated meal-break, depending on shift length. In no instance will a HCW be required to provide services in excess of 80 hours per two-week period.

Duties

• Participate in a multidisciplinary team with other health care providers providing consultative services pursuant to optimal health care delivery to patients suffering from pain.
• Work with physicians in a multidisciplinary team to provide drug therapy recommendations, perform polypharmacy management, and provide patient education regarding changes in drug therapy.
• Conduct a deliberate medication review and reconciliation for chronic pain patients and develop strategies for patients with histories of non-compliance, abuse and or diversion.
• Conduct a clinical interview with patient, family, and/or caregiver(s) to identify information necessary to design a pharmacotherapeutic treatment plan.
• Order and evaluate appropriate laboratory tests to assess clinical response, development of adverse drug reactions, therapeutic drug levels, and complete all appropriate clinical reminders.
• Document and communicate all information as appropriate; pain patient agreements, pharmacotherapeutic treatment findings and recommendations.
• Educate patients and their families/caretaker(s) on medications and non-drug therapy and provide appropriate written drug information: counsel on self-monitoring techniques and lifestyle changes to promote wellness; emphasize medication adherence and provide compliance aids, such as medication charts and pill boxes.
• Extend existing prescriptions (psychotropic and non-psychotropic medications) as appropriate and ensure the patient receives follow-up appointment(s) with the appropriate individual(s).
• Order consults and referrals as appropriate.
• Provide pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and therapies to include prescribing in accordance with MTF policy and performing auricular acupuncture as required to support comprehensive pain management.
• Participate in tele-mentoring, tele-medicine, and tele-consults on site.

Qualifications

• Degree/Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).
• Internship/Residency: Completion of a clinical pharmacy residency or fellowship accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists or American College of Clinical Pharmacy or documentation of appropriate education, training, and/or CME in the practice of clinical pharmacy.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support
• Experience: Possess a graduate certificate within the preceding year from an accredited pharmacy residency program or possess a minimum of 12 months of experience within the preceding 18 months as a Clinical Pharmacist performing direct patient care and clinical activities in an inpatient, outpatient, or ambulatory care pharmacy setting or have held clinical privileges as a Clinical Pharmacist within the preceding 36 months in a MTF. Must have specific training or experience in the area of pain management services.
• Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a pharmacist.

Board Certified or Board Eligible Medical Doctor with or w/o US residency with current US work visa.
