Job summary

UW Medical Center – Northwest Pharmacy Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Pharmacist Intern - Year One. This position is open to UW School of Pharmacy Students only and operates on a per diem, rotating/variable shift schedule.

Under supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the intern will perform technical tasks such as compounding medications and preparing sterile products, while supporting the pharmacy operations.

Qualifications

  • Open only to UW School of Pharmacy students.
  • Certification as Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist Intern required by WA State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain repackaging records.
  • Load drawers for PYXIS and unit dose system.
  • Deliver medications.
  • Package medications into single-unit packages.
  • Restock and pull outdates from shelves in the pharmacy.
  • Maintain ward stock levels on nursing units.
  • Prepare pharmaceutical solutions for external use.

WORK SCHEDULE

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Under general supervision and control of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacist Intern independently performs a variety of technical pharmaceutical functions, such as compounding medications, filling medication orders, and preparing compounded sterile products
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

UW Medicine’s Pharmacy Department provides high-quality and comprehensive pharmacy services to our patients and providers. Our team of specially trained pharmacists and technicians work closely with doctors and nurses to ensure our patients receive the best medication therapy for their condition.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain repackaging records.
  • Load drawers for the PYXIS and unit dose medication distribution system.
  • Deliver medications.
  • Package medications into single-unit packages.
  • Restock and pull outdates off shelves in the pharmacy.
  • Maintain the stock levels of ward stock on the nursing units.
  • Prepare pharmaceutical solutions for external use.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Open only to currently enrolled students in the UW School of Pharmacy

LEGAL REQUIREMENT

Certification as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist Intern with the Washington State Board of Pharmacy.
