Job summary

Smith's Food & Drug Centers is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to assist with daily pharmacy operations, counsel customers on medications, and support immunizations under pharmacist supervision. You will handle prescriptions, insurance processing, and interact with prescribers as needed.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in a US school of pharmacy.
• Hold a current state issued Pharmacy Intern license.

• Gain and maintain knowledge of pharmaceutical products and discuss with customers and prescribers.
• Provide drug counseling to customers.
• Assist with over the counter medications recommendations.
• Input patient and prescription information into the pharmacy system accurately.
• Dispense the correct medication.
• Contact prescribers’ offices for authorization.
• Bag filled prescriptions and deliver to customers accurately.
• Process third party insurance information for customers.
• Contact insurance companies on behalf of customers when necessary.
• Handle charge purchases for customers.
• Accept and interpret prescriptions for fill/refill.

Responsibilities

• Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals for the department.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment to encourage customer return.
• Deliver excellent customer service in line with the Customer 1st strategy.
• Follow safety, quality assurance, and company policies at all times.
• Support immunization administration under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Stock and check incoming orders and manage inventory as needed.
• Report safety risks or incidents promptly to management.

• Facilitate charge purchases for customers.
• Accept and interpret oral and written prescriptions accurately for fill/refill.
• Clean the department.
• Provide immunizations under the supervision of the pharmacist
• Compare and check incoming orders.
• Stock incoming orders properly.
• Return unused medication stock bottles to stock.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Notify pharmacist on duty if they are made aware of a prescription incident.
• Report all safety risk, or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
• Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
• Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
• Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
