Job summary

Kroger in the United States is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to support pharmacists, assist with prescription processing, and deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced store environment.

You will gain hands-on experience inputting patient and prescription information, dispensing medications under supervision, assisting with immunizations, and providing drug counseling while upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in a US school of pharmacy.
• Hold a current state issued Pharmacy Intern license.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists and support customers in a fast-paced store environment.
• Input patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
• Dispense medications under supervision and ensure accuracy.
• Provide drug counseling to customers and discuss OTC recommendations.
• Assist with immunizations under supervision of the pharmacist.
• Stock incoming orders and manage pharmacy inventory as needed.
• Follow safety standards and report issues or incidents to management.

• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of pharmaceutical products and be able to competently discuss these products with customers and prescribers.
• Provide drug counseling to customers.
• Assist with over the counter medications recommendations.
• Accurately input patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
• Dispense the correct medication.
• Contact prescribers’ offices for authorization.
• Bag filled prescriptions and deliver to customer accurately.
• Process third party insurance information for customers.
• Contact insurance companies on the behalf of the customers, if necessary
• Facilitate charge purchases for customers.
• Accept and interpret oral and written prescriptions accurately for fill/refill.
• Clean the department.
• Provide immunizations under the supervision of the pharmacist
• Compare and check incoming orders.
• Stock incoming orders properly.
• Return unused medication stock bottles to stock.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Notify pharmacist on duty if they are made aware of a prescription incident.
• Report all safety risk, or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
• Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
• Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
• Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
• Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
