Play a pivotal role in delivering high-stakes, real-time clinical care across an entire academic medical center during daytime hours. This is a rare opportunity to function as the central clinical pharmacist in a Level 1 Trauma Center, where your expertise directly informs critical decisions and patient outcomes when it matters most.

As a Clinical Pharmacist in Inpatient Acute Care Services, you will practice at the top of your license, balancing independent clinical judgment with collaborative, team-based care. This role offers exceptional breadth of exposure across patient populations and specialties, making it an ideal environment for accelerated clinical growth and autonomy.

The Role:

In this daytime position, you serve as a clinical pharmacy resource for the hospital, working independently while supporting a multidisciplinary care team. The pace is dynamic and unpredictable, requiring strong prioritization, clinical judgment, and adaptability as you move between verification workflows and bedside emergencies.

On a typical shift, you will:

  • Lead hospital-wide medication order verification in Epic, ensuring accuracy and safety across all inpatient units
  • Respond to codes and emergency situations at the bedside, delivering immediate pharmacotherapeutic expertise
  • Provide real-time clinical consultation to nursing staff and providers across a wide range of specialties
  • Function as the a primary clinical pharmacist, managing competing priorities and high-acuity cases
  • Partner closely with:
  • Operational pharmacists
  • Emergency Department pharmacist
  • Nursing and provider teams hospital-wide
  • Balance workflows between:
  • Medication verification queues
  • Urgent clinical interventions and bedside care

This role offers broad exposure across adult patient populations, with frequent involvement in critical care and limited pediatric engagement (primarily during emergency/code situations). The 7 on 7 off schedule supports continuity and deep engagement during working weeks, followed by meaningful time off.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required.

Experience: No experience required. PGY-1 residency or equivalent clinical experience preferred.

Licensure: Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License or within 60 days of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: typing. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $64.37 - $89.07 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
