UVA Health in Charlottesville is seeking a Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist in acute care to provide expert pharmacotherapy for hematology/oncology, GI, and general pediatrics. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to safety and outcomes across the pediatric continuum.

The role includes daily rounds, dose optimization, EMR optimization, weekend coverage every fourth weekend, and opportunities to teach residents and students within a nationally recognized academic health

Qualifications

• Pharm.D. or Bachelor’s in Pharmacy from ACPE-accredited college.
• Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license or able to obtain within 60 days of hire; BLS required.
• PGY-1 residency or equivalent clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert clinical pharmacotherapy in a 126-bed pediatric enterprise, primarily day shift.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds with real-time pharmacotherapy recommendations and dosing optimization.
• Rotate through inpatient Hematology/Oncology, GI, General Pediatrics, and ambulatory infusion services; optional rotations.
• Provide weekend clinical coverage every fourth weekend, rotating day/evening shifts.
• Support education for residents, students, and trainees and contribute to safety initiatives.

You will serve as a key contributor to interdisciplinary care while advancing medication safety and outcomes for children across the continuum.

The Role

As a Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist in acute care, you will play an integral role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based pharmacotherapy within a fast-paced pediatric environment. You will collaborate directly with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to clinical decision-making across a wide range of complex cases.

Your practice will span a broad and engaging scope, including structured rotations and specialized pediatric services. On a typical day, you will:

• Deliver expert clinical pharmacy support across a 126-bed pediatric enterprise, primarily on the day shift

• Actively participate in interdisciplinary rounds, providing real-time pharmacotherapy recommendations, dosing optimization, and monitoring strategies
• Rotate through key practice areas, including:
  • Inpatient Hematology/Oncology, and GI
  • General Pediatrics, including Endocrine, Renal, Cardiac, and Solid Organ Transplant (liver, kidney, heart) populations
  • Ambulatory Infusion Center
  • Optional rotations in Ambulatory Hematology/Oncology and Rheumatology

• Provide weekend clinical coverage every fourth weekend, rotating between day and evening shifts

• Evaluate complex patient cases by synthesizing clinical data to identify and resolve medication-related problems

Beyond direct patient care, you will contribute to broader pharmacy and health system initiatives:

• Participate in order optimization within the electronic medical record to enhance safety and efficiency
• Advance patient safety initiatives and medication stewardship efforts
• Partner closely with medical teams to support safe and seamless transitions of care
• Engage in the academic mission by supporting education for residents, students, and trainees

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required.
• Experience: No experience required. PGY-1 residency or equivalent clinical experience preferred.
• Licensure: Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License or within 60 days of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
• PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: typing. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
