Job summary

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is seeking a Pharmacist II for the San Angelo State Supported Living Center. Responsibilities

  • Interpret orders and screen for interactions, polypharmacy, and allergies (DUR).
  • Dispense medications with emphasis on patient safety.
  • Assist Pharmacy Director in supervising dispensing, pre-packaging, ordering, receiving, and storage of drugs.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and ensure compliance with Texas Board of Pharmacy laws.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to answer drug information questions.
  • Participate in cart checks, refills, narcotic orders, and related duties.
  • Maintain inventory management and equipment/supplies.

Brief Job Description

The staff pharmacist performs technical, clinical and consultative pharmacy services for the San Angelo State Supported Living Center. Responsibilities include drug utilization review, dispensing, inventory control, supervising pharmacy technicians, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. The role supports a mission that aims to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities achieve wellness and independence.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Interprets provider’s orders, screens for interactions, polypharmacy and allergies (DUR).
  • Dispenses correct medications using clinical skills to promote patient safety.
  • Assists the Pharmacy Director in supervising dispensing, pre‑packaging, ordering, receiving, and storing drugs and supplies.
  • Supervises pharmacy technicians (in the absence of the Pharmacy Director) and ensures compliance with Texas Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to answer drug information questions and perform interventions as needed.
  • Participates in weekly routines including cart checks, cart updates, refills, narcotic orders, and furlough medication processing.
  • Maintains proper inventory management control.
  • Utilizes computer skills to efficiently complete job tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including disaster response, continuity of operations (COOP) activation, and alternate shift patterns or location assignments if required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques used in pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric pharmacotherapy.
  • Skills in the operation of applicable pharmacy computer software.
  • Skills in reviewing and interpreting laboratory reports.
  • Skills in written and oral communication.
  • Skills in using a personal computer, email, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and office equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records, files, and reports.
  • Ability to type accurately based on work requirements.
  • Ability to review medication orders for safety and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications
  • Must be currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas, with the license prominently displayed in the pharmacy.
  • Valid unrestricted Texas Pharmacist license that is current.
Initial Screening Criteria
  • Experience in pharmaceutical work.
    Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy of a recognized college or university.
Additional Information
  • Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • Males between the ages of 18‑25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
  • Flexibility in work hours may be required, including overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
