Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Pharmacist II for the San Angelo State Supported Living Center in Carlsbad, TX. This is a full-time, exempt day position.

You will interpret provider orders, screen for interactions, dispense medications, supervise technicians, and collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure patient safety. A Texas Pharmacist license is required and adherence to all regulatory standards is expected.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of pharmacy principles, federal and state laws, and psychiatric pharmacotherapy.
  • Skills in pharmacy computer software, laboratory report interpretation, written and oral communication, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to prepare detailed records, files, and reports; type accurately; review medication orders for safety; maintain effective relationships.

  • Interpret provider orders, screen for interactions, polypharmacy and allergies (DUR).
  • Dispense correct medications using clinical skills to promote patient safety.
  • Supervise dispensing activities, pre-packaging, ordering, receiving, and proper storage of drugs and supplies.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Director in supervising pharmacy technicians and ensuring pharmacy compliance with TSBP laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to answer drug information questions and perform interventions as needed.
  • Participate in weekly routines (check carts, refill orders, narcotic orders, furlough medications).
  • Maintain inventory management control.
  • Use computer systems to efficiently complete job tasks.
  • Perform additional duties, including disaster response, continuity of operations, or alternate shift patterns as required.

Licensure & Registration
  • Must be currently licensed to practice pharmacy in Texas with a valid unrestricted Texas Pharmacist license displayed prominently.
Screening Criteria
  • Experience in pharmaceutical work.
  • Graduated from an accredited school of pharmacy at a recognized college or university.
Additional Requirements

Applicants must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, LEIE). Males 18–25 must be registered with Selective Service. All employees are subject to random drug testing. The position may require overtime, weekend, and holiday work. All applicants must be at least 18 years old.
