Job Description

The Pharmacist I will work various shifts & weekends and will prepare and dispense medication orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. The Pharmacist ensures safe, appropriate, cost‑effective medication therapies for patients, provides input to leadership, contributes to departmental policies, and supervises pharmacy support personnel. The Pharmacist verifies technicians' daily activities, maintains a professional appearance, prioritizes tasks for patient safety, and works cooperatively with all network staff. Pharmacists demonstrate problem‑solving abilities, adapt to changes, and perform other assigned tasks with a focus on patient safety.

Inpatient Responsibilities
  • Perform and supervise sterile compounding according to hospital policy and USP 797 standards.
  • Perform and supervise hazardous sterile compounding according to hospital policy and USP 800 standards.
  • Review and verify prescriber’s orders for appropriateness, accuracy, and adherence to hospital standards.
  • Interact with practitioners, nursing, and ancillary staff regarding patient care and policy adherence.
  • Order, receive, manage, and secure medication and ancillary product inventories, including controlled substances.
  • Accurately dispense medications, document interventions, and maintain records per departmental policy and regulatory standards.
  • Distribute medications within Bassett Healthcare Network clinical service areas.
  • Interact with patients to obtain medication therapy histories, provide counseling, and instruction.
Outpatient Responsibilities
  • Prepare and dispense prescriptions according to safe practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Review prescriptions for appropriateness and accuracy, ensuring accurate labeling.
  • Maintain accurate patient profiles and pharmacy records per network policies and regulations.
  • Maintain controlled substance inventory, follow NYS BNE and federal DEA requirements.
  • Interact with providers to monitor medication effectiveness and provide therapeutic input.
  • Educate and counsel patients on medications, side effects, drug interactions, OTC use, and supplements.
  • Answer medication‑related questions and provide counseling.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians per network policies and state regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with NYS laws, regulations, network policies, and accreditation guidelines.
  • Resolve prescription problems independently and timely.
  • Process and validate prescriptions using current information system technology.
  • Communicate verbally to all staff and patients professionally.
  • Participate in departmental Q/A processes such as reporting medication incidents and adverse events.
  • Identify and resolve barriers to patient discharge, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
Education & Qualifications
  • 5‑year degree in Pharmacy or PharmD, required.
  • Maintain all requirements, including continuing education mandated by the New York State Board of Pharmacy, required.
Experience
  • Minimum one year experience as a registered pharmacist, preferred.
  • Experience in compounding and dispensing medications.
  • Experience monitoring medication therapies.
  • Experience providing medication advice and counseling.
  • Experience verifying prescriptions and orders.
  • Experience overseeing pharmacy technicians and staff.
  • Experience conducting and overseeing inventories.
  • Experience safeguarding controlled substances.
Licensure & Certificates
  • Licensed and currently registered in the state of New York to practice pharmacy, required.

Physical Requirements

Pay Range

Salary is based on qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation. The range represents a good faith belief of compensation at the time of posting.

Pay Range Minimum

USD $127,982.40 per year.

Pay Range Maximum

USD $166,400.00 per year.
