Job summary

SSM Health in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and Wisconsin seeks a pharmacist leader for a 503B outsourcing facility. You will supervise technicians, manage production, ensure DEA, FDA and state regulatory compliance, and drive quality and safety across the drug distribution process.

Responsibilities include compiling reports, coordinating with other departments, precepting students, and leading a skilled pharmacy team in a fast-paced environment. A Pharm.D. and 3+ years of experience required.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D; Bachelor of Pharmacy) from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy
• Three years' pharmacist experience, with at least one year of experience in quality assurance or control
• Resuscitation Certification Requirement: Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) required within 90 day of employment.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the medication dispensing process and coordinates technicians who support drug compounding.
• Maintains FDA compliance of the environmental program and tracks environmental data points to determine thresholds and interventions.
• Creates and delivers a production schedule and completes tasks (inspection, labeling, packaging).
• Develops and implements quality improvement activities and ensures compliance with patient care and medication practice standards.
• Coordinates department activities with other departments and establishes quality controls to ensure quality of care.
• Compiles reports and studies; researches developments relevant to assigned functions.
• Acts as a consultant to support services and personnel; leads staff and precepts students/residents.

Job Summary:

Coordinates compounding and production operations for all aspects of the 503B facility which includes procurement, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulatory compliance, technician supervision/accountability, medication safety, and any other issues that may arise regarding these operations or products. Contributes to a safe and reliable drug supply chain infrastructure for customers.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees the medication dispensing process which includes general oversight and coordination of technicians who support the role of drug compounding.
• Maintains Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliance of the environmental program and trend all environmental program data points to determine appropriate thresholds and initiate and oversee interventions as needed.
• Creates and delivers a production schedule and completion of associated tasks (i.e. inspection, labeling, packaging).
• Develops and implements quality improvement activities and ensures compliance with patient care and medication practice standards within their assigned scope of service. Assesses and improves the performance of pharmacy services provides.
• Implements policies relevant to the operation of the department. Assists in planning and implementing new concepts in drug distribution and control in accordance with established hospital policy and accepted standards of proper pharmacy practice.
• Coordinates department's activities with those of other departments and coordinates with other management staff in establishing checks and quality controls to ensure quality of care.
• Compiles reports and special studies as arranged or as specifically requested. Researches developments and trends inside and outside the hospital that relate to assigned functions.
• Acts as a consultant to support services and ancillary departments. Serves as a resource to the pharmacy staff.
• Leads staff members in the pharmacy by assigning work tasks, training, and scheduling work shifts for all employees.
• Precepts pharmacy students and residents, as applicable.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

• Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D; Bachelor of Pharmacy) from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy

EXPERIENCE

• Three years' pharmacist experience, with at least one year of experience in quality assurance or control

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
• Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
• Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
• Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
• Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
• Rare climbing.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Resuscitation Certification Requirement: Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) required within 90 day of employment. Other resuscitation certifications may be required dependent on department.
