Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking a Pharmacy Coordinator to lead workflow optimization in oncology, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. The role involves antineoplastic care, EMR integration, and staff scheduling under Pharmacy management.

The candidate will collaborate with clinicians to improve quality, reduce costs, and expand oncology services, while maintaining high professional standards and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy; a PharmD or related advanced degree is preferred.
  • Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of clinical practice in an oncology setting, or residency with oncology experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participates as part of the multi-disciplinary team to address patient care needs related to inpatient antineoplastic medications.
  • Creates antineoplastic patient education materials and nursing references for use across the hospitals.
  • Serves as preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.
  • Coordinates and reviews computerized order entry audits and reports.
  • Meets with customers regularly to engage in cost reduction and continuous improvement activities.
  • Works with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and informatics to implement Oncology EMR safely.

Duties include staff scheduling and monitoring compliance with the Health System Human Resources and department policies and procedures and pertinent state and federal laws and regulations. Consults with customers on a regular basis to identify new opportunities to improve quality, reduce costs and expand services.

Required Education, Experience And Certification/Licensure


Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. A PharmD or other related advanced degree is preferred. Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy is preferred.


Experience: 3-5 years of clinical practice in an oncology specific setting OR an oncology specialty residency with at least 1 year of additional oncology clinical practice experience. Previous experience with implementation and/or maintenance and support of an electronic medical record is preferred.


Licensure: A current State of Michigan Pharmacist license, or eligibility for licensure.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate drug therapy information to all health team members, patients, and administrators / managers. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Broad knowledge of medications compounding and dispensing. Thorough knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacokinetics and therapeutics.
  • Analytic skills necessary to organize and prioritize multiple job duties.
  • General understanding of computers, including general operations and data retrieval.
  • Commitment to adhere to activities that promote the vision and mission of Trinity Health and the Department of Pharmacy and the principles of continuous quality improvement within the organization.
  • Demonstrated punctual professional demeanor that is willing to work variable hours on a rotating schedule.
  • Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
  • Communication skills necessary for clear written and oral communication.
  • Thorough knowledge of the regulatory, statutory, and professional aspects of pharmacy practice.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of pharmacokinetics.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities


  • Clinical Practice:
  • Participates as part of the multi-disciplinary team to actively address patient care needs related to inpatient antineoplastic medications.
  • Creates and develops antineoplastic patient education ("chemo teach sheets") and nursing references ("chemotherapy summary sheets") for use across all SJMHS SEMI Hospitals.
  • Serves as preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.
  • Coordinates and reviews computerized order entry audits and reports.
  • Meets on a regular basis with customers to engage in cost reduction, problem solving, and continuous improvement activities
  • Regional Clinical Support and Informatics Practice:
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and informatics specialists in the implementation and integration of Oncology EMR to assure safe and appropriate use of oncology related medications.
  • Participates in development, monitoring, and evaluation of decision support for continuous improvement, particularly of oncology related medications.
  • Plans, develops, implements and monitors compliance with health system and department policies and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for the timely dissemination of information as related Oncology EMR, particularly of medications.
  • Identifies and develops new opportunities with EMR to improve the safety related to oncology medications.
  • Maintains external provider order sets.
  • Travels to all SEMI oncology clinics for physician, pharmacist, and nursing support.
  • Leadership/Professional Practice:
  • Co-chairs of the interdepartmental oncology committee: SJMHS Regional Oncology & Infusion Services Collaborative Practice Team (OISCPT).
  • Leads OISCPT meeting development and agenda/minutes.
  • Evaluates, reviews, and presents new drugs, protocols, guidelines, and policies for approval to the oncology formulary at OISCPT.
  • Imparts knowledge related to antineoplastics and new treatments to committee members.
  • Participates in the orientation, education and mentoring of new physicians, pharmacy and nursing staff, as needed.
