Job summary

Sampson Regional Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacist to join the Pharmacy team. The Clinical Staff Pharmacist prepares medications by reviewing orders, patient data, and pharmacology to ensure safe and effective drug therapy for patients of all ages.

The role includes dispensing medications, monitoring therapies, and providing pharmacological information to health care professionals, while participating in staff training and quality improvement initiatives in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Licensed by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
  • Minimum 2 years hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Strong ability to interpret medication orders and communicate with health care practitioners.
  • Solid understanding of drug compositions, uses, pharmacology and interactions.
  • Numerical skills to measure, compound and prepare reports.

Job description

Sampson Regional Medical Center is hiring a Pharmacist to join the Pharmacy team!

The Clinical Staff Pharmacist prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, patient data, pharmacokinetic properties of prescribed medications, indications for medication, therapeutic incompatibilities and comparing drugs ordered with allergies. The Clinical Staff Pharmacist is responsible for: planning and implementing safe, effective programs for drug administration and monitoring; Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals to patients of all ages; Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies and advising health care practitioners about interventions; Organizes and directs technicians' workflow; verifies technician preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifies order entries and completes inspections; Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; Develops hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, and health care professionals; Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring unit inspections; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of pharmacy technicians; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions. Consults and advises practitioners as needed. Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications, establishes personal networks, and participates in professional societies. The clinical staff pharmacist serves as a patient advocate and works to improve the patient satisfaction through quality patient care. The clinical staff pharmacist actively participates in the continuous quality improvement process through drug utilization studies and serving on select hospital committees as needed.

Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy and licensed by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
  • Prefer at least two (2) years' experience in hospital pharmacy. Three (3) to six (6) months on the job training is required to become familiar with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Verbal ability is needed to interpret and understand written medication orders, formularies and reference texts, as well as for presenting information on pharmaceuticals to health care practitioners and the public.
  • Must understand the composition of drugs and their manufacturer, uses, pharmacologic actions and interactions.
  • Numeric ability it needed to measure, weigh, compound, and compute changes and prepare reports.
  • Clerical perception is needed to prevent errors in reading medication orders.
  • Form perception is needed to interpret medication orders, to note physical and chemical changes in ingredients for medicinals and to interpret formularies, graphs, nomograms, etc.
Hours

Will work at least 8-10 hours a day, 4-5 days per week. 12-hour shifts may be required on the weekends. May need to work additional hours for the effective operation of the department as required and approved by the Director of Pharmacy Services.
