Job summary

Eurofins seeks a Materials Scientist with hands-on experience in pharmaceuticals, API, and small molecule testing to support drug development through advanced solid-state and particle characterization.

You will perform solid-state characterization, screening studies, and particle analysis while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support solid-form selection and clinical development. The role is full-time, based near Groton, CT, with standard M-F hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of industry experience or higher in related fields.
• Strong experience with pharmaceutical, API, and small molecule testing.
• Hands-on solid-state characterization techniques include XRPD, PLM, DSC, TGA, FTIR, Raman.

Responsibilities

• Perform solid-state characterization of pharmaceutical small molecules using XRPD, DSC, TGA, microscopy, spectroscopy, and moisture sorption analysis.
• Execute polymorph, salt, co-crystal, and crystallization screening studies for API development.
• Conduct particle and powder characterization, including particle size, shape, surface energy, and surface morphology analysis.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Medicinal Chemistry, Formulation Development, Biopharmaceutics, and Materials Science to support solid-form selection and clinical development activities.
• Analyze experimental data, troubleshoot scientific challenges, and provide technical recommendations to project teams.
• Maintain accurate documentation and data records within electronic laboratory notebook systems.
• Contribute to innovative materials science approaches and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

We are seeking a Materials Scientist with hands-on experience in pharmaceuticals, API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient), and small molecule testing for drug production to support drug development programs through advanced solid-state and particle characterization.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform solid-state characterization of pharmaceutical small molecules using techniques such as XRPD, DSC, TGA, microscopy, spectroscopy, and moisture sorption analysis .

• Required: Strong experience in pharmaceutical, API, and small molecule testing supporting drug production and development.
• Hands-on experience with solid-state characterization techniques including XRPD, PLM, DSC, TGA, FTIR, Raman, and related analytical methods.
• Strong data analysis, interpretation, and problem-solving skills related to solid-state chemistry, particle characterization, and pharmaceutical materials science.
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry principles.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with SSNMR, NIR spectroscopy, or programming/data analysis tools is a plus.

The position is full-time, M- F 8 am to 5 pm

May be requested to work on weekends, overtime, and holidays based on business needs.
