St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a Pharmaceutical Buyer to manage requisitioning, purchasing, and inventory control for the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Duties include maintaining par levels, processing orders with vendors, and ensuring regulatory compliance across the supply chain.

The role supports 340B accounts, tracks recall items, and collaborates with 340B and procurement teams to sustain uninterrupted pharmaceutical supply for pediatric care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or logistics requested or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a pharmacy environment preferred.
  • License/registration requirements as stated (Pharmacy Technician License) and PTCP certification within first year.

Job description

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is dedicated to advancing cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through groundbreaking research and exceptional patient care. Our Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is committed to providing the highest quality clinical pharmaceutical care to children, integrating research findings into clinical practice as swiftly as possible.

Coordinates and facilitates requisitioning and procurement of all pharmaceutical products obtained by the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Ensures that all purchase orders between the department and selected vendors are compliant with all institutional and departmental policies. Supports the activities of the Inventory Management Team and ensures a continuum of customer service is provided to all hospital departments and external vendors.

Responsible for maintaining inventory management systems. Setting appropriate par levels and reorder points for products in the Pharmaceutical Inventory Resource Center. Adding/updating inventory system records and content according to current purchasing patterns.

Coordinates with department on identifying, removing, and quarantining any recalled items throughout the hospital. Utilize appropriate partner systems to identify recalled items that have been purchased.

Processes and creates purchase orders according to vendor requirements (for example EDI, online, fax, etc.). Resolves order and invoice discrepancies by coordinating with vendors, as needed. Partners with inventory administrative support personnel to track and maintain records of purchase orders and related documents.

Selects product alternatives when primary source products are not available. Communicates with appropriate Pharmacy groups and leaders to manage drug shortage and supply chain issues.

Responsible for punctual completion of routine department level ServiceNow tasks according to provided schedule.

Supports the Inventory Management Team to increase the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the department. Actively engages in problem solving and group discussions with staff. Supplies input to Inventory Leadership on current issues and resolutions.

Works in collaboration with 340B team to ensure purchasing compliance. Updates appropriate shared documents to track purchasing on 340B accounts.

Stays current on regulatory updates that affect the purchase and tracking of pharmaceutical items. Participates in the support and utilization of DSCSA software to ensure supply chain integrity and compliance.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.

Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in business administration or logistics preferred.
Minimum Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with no experience OR High school diploma/ GED with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working in a pharmacy environment preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:
  • Registration of Pharmacy Technician License with the State of Tennessee required. Registration must be renewed every two years.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required (must be able to complete this requirement within first year of employment)
Compensation:

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $24.00 - $42.00 per hour for the role of Pharmaceutical Buyer.
