Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding seeks a cost control and financial planning professional to set up and monitor cost control systems on complex government contracts. You will prepare budgets, schedules, and analyses to ensure compliance with cost guidelines and funding availability.

The role requires a strong background in shipbuilding finance, with related apprenticeships or NNPS credentials preferred. U.S. Citizenship is required; on-site work in Newport News, VA.

Qualifications

• NNS Apprentice School and NNPS graduates are preferred.
• Associate’s or high school with multiple years of relevant shipbuilding experience are acceptable.
• Experience with manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades or military background is valued.

Responsibilities

• Sets up cost control system, monitors and controls costs and schedules on contracts requiring validated cost schedule control system.
• Performs analyses and prepares reports to ensure contracts stay within negotiated parameters and government guidelines.
• Prepares budgets and schedules and conducts funding and variance analyses.
• Ensures funding availability by recording expenditures and projecting funding needs; requests additional funding as needed.

The Role

Sets up cost control system, monitors and controls costs and schedules on contracts requiring validated cost schedule control system. Performs analyses and prepares reports in order to ensure that contracts are within negotiated and agreed-upon parameters and government cost control guidelines. Prepares budgets and schedules for contract work and performs and/or assists in financial analyses such as funding profiles, sales outlook, and variance analysis. Prepares program plans to ensure program requirements and statement of work are captured and scheduled. Performs schedule risk assessments to identify and mitigate program cost and scheduling risks. Ensures adequate funding availability by maintaining accurate records of expenditures, directing preparation of expenditure projections, and submitting timely requests for additional funding to the government. Incorporates contractual changes into control systems by staying aware of outstanding work against each contract in order to maintain realistic contract cost and schedule baselines.

Must Have

• NNS Apprentice School graduate
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
• Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
• High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
• High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
