Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia is seeking an experienced engineer to plan and coordinate preparation of project documentation, including drawings, production specs, schedules and contract modifications.

You will review contracts, assess changes to designs, and coordinate with engineering, quality, manufacturing and data control teams to ensure compliance and timely delivery. This role requires a Bachelor's degree with several years of exempt experience or recognized equivalents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 4 year of relevant professional experience
  • One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications
  • Equivalency options include NNPS, NNS Apprentice School, associate degree with experience, military paygrade, or equivalent combinations

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates preparation of project documentation such as engineering drawings, production specifications and schedules, and contract modifications.
  • Reviews contract to determine documentation required for each phase of project, applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Analyzes proposed changes of product design to determine effect on overall product and system.
  • Coordinates modification records for management control.
  • Establishes change orders and prepares for change authorization and documentation by company and subcontractor.
  • Reviews and analyzes released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and engineering data control activities.

The Role

Plans and coordinates preparation of project documentation, such as engineering drawings, production specifications and schedules, and contract modifications, to ensure customer contract requirements are met. Reviews contract to determine documentation required for each phase of project, applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes. Analyzes proposed changes of product design to determine effect on overall product and system. Coordinates modification records for management control. Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 4 year of relevant professional experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
