Job summary

RTI International is seeking a PFAS Laboratory Manager to oversee a growing PFAS research portfolio, ensuring high-quality data and compliant operations. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of analysts, chemists, and technicians, coordinating projects with project managers and external partners.

The role requires a strong track record in PFAS methods, laboratory management, and data QA/QC, with emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, or related discipline with 7+ years of analytical chemistry/mass spectrometry experience.
  • 5+ years PFAS analytical experience using LC-MS/MS and/or high-resolution MS.
  • Demonstrated laboratory management experience and PFAS method expertise.
  • Experience with EPA PFAS methods (e.g., EPA 1633, 537.1, 533).
  • 3 years of laboratory leadership including supervision and workflow oversight.
  • Proven track record in method development/validation for PFAS in environmental or biological matrices.
  • Experience with QA/QC systems including calibration, control charts, blanks, spikes, and data defensibility.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the PFAS analytical laboratory with emphasis on workflow, throughput, and turnarounds.
  • Ensure instrument readiness (LC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS, sample prep systems).
  • Develop and enforce SOPs, QA/QC, safety protocols, and accreditation-aligned data integrity practices.
  • Manage laboratory resources including staffing, consumables, and maintenance schedules.
  • Review and approve analytical data and reporting packages.
  • Supervise and mentor analysts, technicians, and junior scientists.
  • Serve as primary technical contact for PFAS inquiries from clients, regulators, and collaborators.
  • Contribute to capital equipment requests for PFAS analysis instrumentation.
