Petroleum Engineer HOUSTON, TX

Location: HOUSTON, TX USA

Salary: 150000 - 300000

Department: Exploration/Production

Reports To: Senior Petroleum Engineer or Exploration Manager

Job Overview: The Petroleum Engineer is responsible for designing and developing methods for extracting oil and gas from deposits below the earth’s surface. This position focuses on evaluating potential oil and gas reservoirs, overseeing drilling activities, and implementing recovery schemes to maximize hydrocarbon extraction efficiently and safely.

The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in geology, mathematics, and engineering principles to innovate extraction techniques, ensuring environmental compliance and optimizing resource recovery.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assess and interpret geological data to identify and evaluate oil and gas reservoirs.
  2. Design and implement drilling strategies for extracting oil and gas, considering cost, safety, and environmental impact.
  3. Monitor production rates, and plan rework processes to enhance production.
  4. Analyze drilling performance and fluid dynamics to optimize extraction processes.
  5. Work with multidisciplinary teams, including geoscientists, drilling teams, and other engineers, to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely.
  6. Develop new technologies and methods for hydrocarbon extraction, aiming to reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency.
  7. Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations in all engineering and operational processes.
  8. Prepare reports and presentations for management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  9. Evaluate operations and projects for economic viability and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience in the oil and gas industry, with a strong background in reservoir engineering, drilling operations, and project management.
  3. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  4. Proficiency in industry-specific software, such as reservoir simulation software, and general project management tools.
  5. Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  6. Knowledge of current environmental regulations, safety standards, and sustainable practices in the oil and gas sector.
  7. Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent is preferred.
Work Environment:

This role operates in a variety of settings, including offices, drilling sites, and potentially offshore platforms. The Petroleum Engineer may spend time in the field, working closely with operations teams and facing the physical challenges of oil and gas extraction environments. Travel to different sites, including international locations, may be required.

Physical Requirements:

The job may involve physical activities, including walking, standing for long periods, and occasionally lifting heavy equipment. Safety protocols must be strictly followed to minimize risks associated with drilling and extraction operations.
