Job summary

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) Austin laboratory seeks an experienced Petrographer to join our team.

You will apply a principles-first approach to determine root causes, characterize materials, and evaluate performance for cementitious materials across the AEC industry. Responsibilities include petrographic analyses, microscopy, data management, and contributing to investigations involving concrete, aggregate, and other building materials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in geology, materials science/engineering, or a related field with mineralogy/petrology/geochemistry coursework.
• Minimum two years of applied petrographic laboratory experience.
• Strong foundation in optical mineralogy, petrology, and petrographic sample preparation.
• Excellent technical, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to day-to-day success of concurrent projects with limited oversight.
• Perform hands-on petrographic analyses, microscopy, field assessment, and physical testing.
• Accurately record and organize data, ensuring reasonable test results.
• Maintain laboratory safety, equipment, and quality assurance standards.
