Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled PET Technologist to join our imaging team. Under the general direction of the Director of PET and clinical supervision of the reading physician, the technologist will perform PET imaging on patients of all ages to assist in diagnostic evaluation. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory, safety, and clinical protocols for the safe and accurate operation of PET imaging systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform PET/CT scans according to departmental protocols and physician direction.
- Administer contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals safely and in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Ensure all hospital, radiation safety, and NYS DOH regulations are followed.
- Review medical histories, protocols, and screening forms to verify exam readiness.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform quality checks on imaging equipment (PET, CT, dose calibrators).
- Archive images and ensure proper documentation in PACS, MIM, and Syngo.
- Maintain accurate records of radiopharmaceutical use and exposure logs.
- Perform quality assurance (QA), survey measurements, and contamination control.
- Support departmental operations by managing supplies and assisting colleagues.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proficiency in peripheral IV access and injection procedures (manual and automated systems).
- Strong knowledge of nuclear medicine equipment, PACS/RIS systems, and digital image processing.
- Capable of producing high-quality diagnostic images with minimal supervision.
- Flexible, reliable, and able to work beyond scheduled hours if needed.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a team-oriented clinical environment.
- Demonstrated competency in special imaging techniques and protocols.
- Ability to perform PET-CT image processing and quality control (including X-ray and PET systems).
- Familiarity with SNMMI Quality Standards, infection control, and BLS protocols.
Education & Certifications
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
- Certification by NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Tech) or ARRT (Nuclear Medicine Technology).
- Active NY State Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist License (with injection endorsement).
- CT certification (ARRT - Computed Tomography) required for PET-CT imaging.
- Current BLS certification.
Preferred:
- Continued education in PET/CT and advanced imaging techniques.
