Job summary

Mars, Incorporated and its Affiliates is seeking a leader in product development to drive innovation and renovation within our Wet portfolio for the North American Pet Nutrition operating plan.

You will provide formulation and technical support from bench to full-scale production, collaborating with global teams and NA Process & Packaging to ensure product performance, safety, and alignment with nutritional guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Food Science, Technology, Engineering, or related technical field.
• Graduate degree in Food Science, Technology, Engineering, or Business Administration would be a plus.
• 4+ years of experience in Product Development and/or Formulation within a CPG company.
• Pet food experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of product development from bench top to full scale production.
• Prior experience must include design of experiments and functionality of raw materials. Statistical analysis knowledge is a plus.
• Demonstrated excellence in project management and capability to lead cross functional projects. Stage gate process experience is a plus.
• Strong ability to work cross functionally with people in other disciplines and/or business areas.

Responsibilities

• Support Innovation & Renovation projects by providing recipes and formulation support enabling the delivery of product performance targets.
• Lead R&D in translating consumer insights into product design.
• Support development and implementation of recipes and raw materials in the factory according to standards.
• Formulate for innovation/renovation projects meeting nutritional guidelines and safety criteria.
• Formulate products meeting design attributes and quality targets at launch.
• Collaborate with R&D and cross-functional partners to design product briefs.
• Define technical learning plans with R&D partners to drive project timelines.
• Drive execution of technical learning plans with Process, Packaging, Q&FS, Supply & Commercial.
• Use tools to facilitate concept and prototype creation and evaluation.
• Ensure R&D voice in risk assessment of innovation/renovation stage/gate (QuEST).
• Ensure product performance validation for innovation/renovation projects.
• Ensure shelf-life validation for projects that deviate from existing foundations.
• Deliver product frameworks, recipe frameworks, and finished product specifications.
• Follow corporate labeling and claim policy.
• Collaborate to close gaps for PPP outages when root causes exceed framework.
