Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Stylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and best-in-class salon services. This position will receive training and guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams, learning proper grooming techniques. The role also involves upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy, maintaining store cleanliness, recommending solutions for pet parents, and ensuring pet safety.

The Pet Stylist in Training role is obtained once the associate has successfully completed the PetSmart Grooming Academy.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform full menu of bath, brush, grooming services, and standalone services like nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services under supervision.
• Develop safe technical skills exceeding company expectations.
• Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents based on pet needs.
• Ensure positive pet parent experience in person, over the phone, and at the sales register.
• Greet pet parents, answer questions, and assist with reservations.
• Conduct appointment reminder calls, maintain client records, and rebook appointments.
• Promote salon sales and meet sales targets.
• Recommend and sell merchandise and services.
• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for pets in the grooming area.
• Act immediately if a sick or injured pet is identified.
• Assist in other departments as needed.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Completion of PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification.
• Prior grooming experience preferred; may require a technical exam.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and safety awareness.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb a ladder, and handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear; vision abilities include depth perception.
• Lift up to 50 pounds frequently, occasionally team lift over 100 pounds.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate to high noise levels. Handling live animals is common.
