Job Summary

PetSmart’s Salon Experience Lead (Groomer & Salon Trainer) is responsible for providing exceptional service to pet parents and supporting a high performing team while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role will deliver professional quality services with a focus on quality and care of pets. The Salon Experience Lead will support the development of bathers and new stylists, guiding them through the entire pet stylist development program.

Essential Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following and may vary depending on store characteristics and needs:

People Leadership:

• Facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development. This includes training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and providing feedback for performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and promotions.
• Develops new and existing associates through bather and stylist certification processes.
• Identifies internal candidates for stylist training programs.
• Delegates and verifies completion of daily salon tasks.
• Addresses and manages associate complaints and grievances.
• Recognizes and celebrates associates to foster engagement.

Salon and Overall Store Experience:

• Ensures positive pet parent interactions and manages concerns over various communication channels.
• Supports pet parents, answers questions, and recommends wellness solutions.
• Engages with pet parents during checkout to encourage rebooking and promote marketing promotions.
• Uses salon tools to make reservations and manage appointments.
• Maintains store standards, ensures compliance with policies, and promotes a culture of empowerment.
• Performs grooming and bathing services according to standards.
• Encourages salon sales to meet targets and metrics.
• Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for pets.
• Acts promptly on sick or injured pets and arranges veterinary care as needed.
• Communicates business trends and best practices to leadership.
• Reports facility or supply needs.
• Recommends and sells services and merchandise.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of grooming experience; may require a technical exam.
• Full-time availability with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Proficiency with grooming tools, equipment, and products.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and stay composed.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to safety and detail.

Supervisory Responsibility:

• No direct reports, but supports and guides other associates' development.
• Provides performance feedback to supervisors.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Requires standing, walking, climbing, and manual handling, including lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally over 100 pounds with assistance.
• Exposure to mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and noise; handling live animals is common.
