Job Summary
PetSmart’s Salon Experience Lead (Groomer & Salon Trainer) is responsible for providing exceptional service to pet parents and supporting a high performing team while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role will deliver professional quality services with the utmost focus on quality and care of pets. The Salon Experience Lead will support the development of bathers and new stylists, guiding them through the entire pet stylist development program.
Essential Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following and may vary depending on store characteristics and needs:
People Leadership:
- Facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development. This includes training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and providing feedback for performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and promotions.
- Develops new and existing associates through bather and stylist certification processes.
- Identifies internal candidates for stylist training programs.
- Delegates and validates completion of daily salon tasks.
- Addresses and manages associate complaints and grievances.
- Recognizes and celebrates associates to promote engagement.
Salon and Overall Store Experience:
- Ensures a positive pet parent experience through interactions via phone, in person, or online, addressing concerns effectively.
- Supports pet parents, offers recommendations, and promotes wellness solutions.
- Engages with pet parents at checkout to encourage rebooking and promote marketing promotions.
- Uses salon tools to make reservations and manage appointments.
- Maintains store standards, ensuring policies, procedures, and ethical codes are followed.
- Performs grooming services including baths, brushes, nails, teeth, and sanitary services according to PetSmart standards.
- Promotes salon sales and helps achieve sales targets and metrics.
- Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and humane treatment of pets in the grooming area.
- Responds promptly to sick or injured pets, including transport to veterinary care if needed.
- Communicates business trends and best practices with the Experience Leader.
- Reports facility or supply needs as required.
- Recommends and sells services and merchandise.
- Supports other departments as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years grooming experience; may require a technical exam.
- Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency with grooming tools, equipment, and products.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure and stay composed.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and safety awareness.
Supervisory Responsibility
- No direct reports, but supports and guides other associates’ development.
- Provides performance feedback to supervisor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Requires standing, walking, ladder climbing, and manual handling. Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Vision requirements include depth perception.
- Must frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs and occasionally more than 100 lbs with assistance.
- Exposure to mechanical parts, wet environment, pet hair, and noise. Handling live animals is common.
