Pet Groomer & Salon Trainer
PetSmart’s Salon Experience Lead (Groomer & Salon Trainer) is responsible for providing exceptional service to pet parents and supporting a high‑performing team while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role delivers professional quality services with the utmost focus on pet care and supports the development of bathers and new stylists throughout the pet stylist development program.

Essential Responsibilities
- People Leadership:
- Facilitate associate experience and development through training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Develop new and existing associates through the bather and/or stylist certification process.
- Identify internal candidates for academy training to become stylists.
- Delegate and validate completion of daily salon tasks.
- Address and administer associate complaints and grievances.
- Recognize and celebrate associates driving overall engagement.
- Salon and Overall Store Experience:
- Ensure pet parent experience excellence across phone, in‑person, and online interactions.
- Greet and support pet parents, answer questions, and recommend wellness solutions.
- Engage pet parents at checkout to drive connection and re‑booking.
- Communicate marketing promotions to increase engagement.
- Use salon tools, including the booking system and call logs, for reservations and appointment calls.
- Maintain store standards and enforce compliance with policies, procedures, and the code of ethics.
- Perform full menu of bath, brush, and grooming services in accordance with PetSmart’s standards.
- Promote opportunities to grow salon sales and achieve metrics.
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for pets.
- Take immediate action and report when a sick or injured pet is identified; arrange transport to a veterinarian if necessary.
- Communicate business trends and best practices to the Experience Leader.
- Report facilities or supply needs to the Experience Leader or Leader on Duty.
- Recommend, inform, and sell services and merchandise.
- Assist and work with other departments as required.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of grooming experience; may be required to complete a technical exam.
- Full‑time availability with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency with tools, equipment, and products for safe technical work.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety measures.
Supervisory Responsibility
- No direct reports, but expected to guide and support associate development.
- Provide performance feedback to the direct supervisor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, and use hands for handling, writing, and other tasks; frequent reaching with hands and arms.
- Lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally team lifting beyond 100 pounds.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate noise.
